8 year old loves science and wants to be a scientist when he’s older so I want to do a science box for Christmas. So far got a microscope and slime making bits....now I’m drawing a blank!

What would you put in a science hamper? Ideas please!!

A packet of cornflower to make oobleck liquids.

If you do get cornflour, buy water beads (Orbeez?) too — you can use them as a model how the particles in the cornflour are moving. Plus you can experiment to see how much water they'll take in, do they grow faster in hot or cold water etc.

A UV torch could be fun, as long as he can be trusted not to point it at people's eyes — lots of household things fluoresce (Persil, tonic water, cumin, vitamin tablets), and if he like colouring, try colouring with highlighters. I've attached a picture I did to show you.

USB microscopes are really good fun too.

A bottle of coke and some mentoes!

Forgot to say - it's worth checking the Book People for science books - they have loads for kids including some of those listed here, and they're often much cheaper than Amazon.

Stompythedinosaur I second the Natural History Museum NHM1005 Pocket Microscope, it's so good. Very useful for looking at nits it is too.

Last year I got
My DT the home lab book and got together ingredients for 4 fav experiments and have them with the book. If you google it Kendall Jenner actually did the present for North West. It's a really lovely DK book.
