Teachers presents

It's been I while since I was at primary school but I've been wondering. Do teachers genuinely appreciate being given a Christmas present by every child in their class (36 in mine) or is it just an annoying pile of tat for the charity shop?

They appreciate it if it is wine...

I would only appreciate wine for the regift value as I don't drink.
Unless you know the teacher well, stick to a card

As a teacher, who doesn't drink - either chocolate or some form of gift card is great - I recommend Amazon! I've had amazon gift cards in the past and they're so useful - and I always end up buying things for the classroom anyway haha!

But honestly, of course we love presents like anyone else, but some of my most cherished items are hand made cards and pictures!

Everyone loves a present or a thank you

LJdorothy · 28/11/2018 19:05

Card with a thank you is perfect, if the thank you is sincerely meant. I've been reduced to a blubbering wreck on several occasions by a lovely note from a child or their parent. If you really want to give a present, wine is always great too...I'd be very pleased with one of those little bottles of prosecco. Gifts for the classroom are always good...nice gel pens for the writing table, fancy post it notes...the sort of stuff I usually have to buy myself.

I told DMIL (retired TA) that we are doing a collection for vouchers again (about 15 of the class contributed last year, others did their own thing) and she sighed and said that she remembered the class that had done vouchers. She also loved the handwritten cards. She was less keen on the procession of mugs and candles...it was the sheer volume rather than any one gift though!

Honestly, no. A lot gets put into the next school raffle of tombola. Wine is very much a taste thing, so chances are it won’t be to their taste.

Just write a letter

I’ve done a hamper (well box of stuff) for staff room . Tea, coffee, herbal tea, hot chocolate, m and s biscuits, green and blacks (of course) and might make a cake too and send on last week of term. As it’s all consumable I thought would be ok and saw it recommended on here I think

My primary school kids have always made a decoration for their teachers at Christmas. Eg Decopatch a star, . I figure they can hide it round the back of the tree if they don't like it. Or my child Grin

Who doesn't like a present?
I know it's a bit non- Mumsnet but I love the gifts I receive - whether they are home-made,shop bought, personal or generic. I love the idea that pupils and parents have thought of me and wish to show their appreciation. However I also love it when a parent sees me outside of school and tells me how much their child enjoys my class or a child tells me I'm their best teacher ever!
BUT maybe I'm just a sad individual who doesn't receive a lot of presents outside of work so am pathetically grateful when someone does!

I work in a nursery and always appreciate gifts as it shows they have thought of me and wanted to show their appreciation (even though I dont really drink, am gluten/dairy free, and have v sensitive skin so can't use most bath products)

Best gift though (recieved and have given to teachers) a lovely hand written card with scratch cards! You may end up giving them an amazing gift 😂
