Met Police present appeal - ideas for an 8-year-old boy

I've done this initiative www.met.police.uk/police-forces/metropolitan-police/areas/campaigns/2018/met-christmas-appeal/ for a few years but usually get girls to buy for. They've been easy.

This year I've got to buy for an 8-year-old boy and I'm not sure what to get so all ideas would be very welcome. The budget is around £20-30 I think and I usually try to keep presents on the small side since the children may be in temporary accommodation with not much space for storage.

When my boys were 8 years old they loved vehicles of any kind, playmobil, lego or ready made. Also Hot Wheels, but that's quite big.

Or Power Rangers type figures? Maybe those don't exist anymore?!

Ds1 just turned 9 - very much Lego and football. Not much change tbh just the set that piques his interest. City now ninja one last year.

DS age 8 likes

Lego
Jurrassic world
Spy stuff
Nerf guns
Den building (canoflage net, Wallis talkies etc)

Dobble and uno are card games that don’t take up much room.
Lego is always a popular choice for that age group.
A football, goalie gloves and shin pads
Little basket ball and net set (my kids have one from Tiger that fixes on a door)
Magnetic dart board
Superheroes/action figures
A rucksack (I read an article about kids in care often having to transport their belongings around in plastic bags ☹️)

An 8yr old is a lovely age to buy for!
I’ve also signed up again this year. And for the 3rd year running I have an older teen boy! Confused I think I’m going to buy him a H&M voucher.

DS almost 8 likes/is getting
Lego
Gravitrax
Board games - Operation and Rummikub
Factual books - Guinness Book of records
Hama beads

I think generally speaking Lego is a safe bet and it meets your requirements of small Smile

  • wrist watch
  • colouring pens in a pencil case
  • dot to dot books
  • lego
  • football / Rugby ball
  • anything star wars
  • anything Harry Potter
  • top trumps sets

I’m going to get my nephew a card game called Exploding Kittens as that is apparently supposed to be fun!

Thesearmsofmine · 27/11/2018 19:28

Lego is a winner here. My ds (8) likes the Lego Creator stuff at the moment.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/11/2018 22:43

Smiggle stationery
Den building kit
Spy kit
Lego (minecraft was popular)
Book token
Watch

My son loves colouring. Pokemon colouring or adult colouring books with nice pens. Also the adult dot to dot books are brill.

purplecorkheart · 27/11/2018 23:02

Lego would.be my go to with some kind of zip case/bag that it could be stored in ( a zip A4 document holder).

mummyof2boys30 · 28/11/2018 06:59

Thank you very much (I decided to install updates on my laptop last night for reasons that now escape me which meant I couldn't log in - Lego it is. And I really like the idea of the Tiger ball and net.

Last year waterlemon I got a 8-year-old girls and part of the present were s series of little (glittery!) mini suitcases that could be stored inside each other for that sort of reason (but not sure how practical they would be...)
