Usually I just go for party bag type things with some sweets and a small plush on top do the lot for about £30.

As I am hoping to cutback on the crap this year and no one needs another pack of cards or box of dominoes I am stepping up my stocking game.

I was thinking £15 per stocking I have 4 to do
DD 16
DS15
DS11
DS4
What sort of things would you think to go in them. Other than the obligatory tube of sweets which has to happen.

A stocking should include, imo, an edible, a toiletry, a book, an item of clothing, and something completely frivolous.

If you have big stockings you need a filler like a tube of pringles, a rolled up sticker book/magazine, a bag of popcorn/crisps...anything that takes up lots of space.

Clothing is good - funky socks/ hat/gloves

Stationery that will get used

An orange fills out the toe nicely.

Nousernameforme · 27/11/2018 17:54

Yes something big DS1 asked for yoghurt covered banana chips I can get a big bag of those at a local place that should take up some room.
So I am going for the large edible, wearable probably gloves or pants as they are all very well off for socks at moment. Naice-ish bubble bath Stationary/craft stuff, Book/magazine. Then tube of sweets and small plush.
It will all end up used and nothing will go in the bin come july when it surfaces again

Our 3 get a mixture of the following:
Hair bobbles
Toothbrush
Flannel
Chocolate coins
Novelty pen/pencil
Lip balm
Nail polish

Nothing that costs more than a pound or two per item.

gussiefox · 27/11/2018 18:08

Put something very small inside a balloon and then blow the balloon up.

Ragwort · 27/11/2018 18:10

I go to Poundland & stock up on school stationery bits, toiletries and chocolates. Plenty of choice (some lovely Christmas mugs there as well today).

SavoyCabbage · 27/11/2018 18:35

A comic is a good filler.

akmum18 · 27/11/2018 19:39

Ds is almost 15. For his stocking I've bought.
Turkish delight.
Tube of Pringles (thank you to pp who suggested that! I grabbed some today).
Torch key ring.
Cans of j20.
Deodorant.
Tea tree face wash.
Body spray.
Head phones.
Just need to buy some socks and order a cheap phone case off eBay.

QueenOnAPlate · 28/11/2018 16:10

I always put loads of sellotape around each item to make the process last longer - it really makes it feel like they have masses in the stocking!

HelenaJustina · 28/11/2018 16:18

So far I’ve got tiny baking sets for each stocking, chocolate coins, mini boxes of cereal (we never have them! Have broken up a multi pack between them) notebooks, Christmas erasers (again multipack divided)

They will also have a magazine each, it’s pretty much their only one of the year as we don’t buy them routinely. Plus a new toothbrush as it’s traditional in this house!

I typically didn't especially fill the stockings in previous year. It would just be a chocolate Santa, a small bag of chocolates, blind bag and a small toy like a my little pony figure.

This year I've made a bit more of an effort so my girls have some bits from Claire's (make up for the older one, lip balm for the younger one and nail varnishes), plus a very big chocolate Santa and a couple of bling bags so Harry potter ones for my older daughter, Mario ones for my son. My son also got an egg that disolves in water to reveal a dinosaur.

Chocolateheaven123 · 28/11/2018 17:00

My DS is only a toddler (nearly 2) so take this with a pinch of salt!
We've agreed no tat in the stockings just to fill them up.

This year he's having:
Pants (ready for potty training)
Slipper socks
Toothbrush
Stickers/sticker books
Aqua pens
Child's Farm bubble bath
Chocolate coins
Other chocolate goodies

We'll have the same concept as he gets older and our next baby due next year.
Stuff like stationary, hat/gloves, socks, pants, smellies, make up, toothbrush, a book, etc. But will always include chocolate/sweets Grin love the idea of those little packet of cereals for when he's older!

YourMilkshakeIsBetterThanMine · 28/11/2018 17:16

My older two are 6 and 2 but 2yo wants whatever 6yo has. They have:

Choc coins
Kinder egg

Lip balm pops from Claire's
Blind bags
Pez dispenser
Tiny playmobil set
Cd

Hair clips
Magic face cloth
Toothbrush
Soft toy at the top
