If you drive long distances what gift would you like?

A bit random, I know.
Dh’s cousin may be joining us for Christmas and I don’t know her all that well. A few months ago she changed jobs and now drives 2-3 hours each way twice a week.

My first thought was either a decent insulated coffee mug (any recommendations?) or some audio books (but do they even make those anymore?)

Budget would be about £20-£30

Could you do audible for her? Not sure if you can buy credits out right or only by monthly subscription though.
I loved listening to mine when I commuted a lot

Alanamackree · 25/11/2018 08:53

Thanks lostvoice Audible is a great idea but you can only buy memberships and I don’t know whether she has one already. A gift card would be perfect but they don’t do those.
I don’t want to have to interrogate her first!

I keep finding problems like this with apps- they’re great day-to-day but I wish they would facilitate Christmas/birthday present-giving a bit more.

Contigo seems to be the most reliable brand for insulated travel mugs.

Lovemusic33 · 25/11/2018 08:58

iTunes vouchers for iPod?
Insulated mug (though I don’t tend to drink on a long journey as I will need the loo).
Not sure what else, I love driving so I don’t really need anything to make it any better 🤣

Does they have any hobbies?

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 25/11/2018 08:59

Contigo Byron mug, definitely.
Cabin Pressure CD boxset.

TheDogAteMySock · 25/11/2018 09:28

Totally second WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit's suggestions. Both ideas are superb.

Alanamackree · 25/11/2018 14:59

I’ll check out contigo. Never thought of the loo problem!
Cabin pressure looks good too.
Thanks!

Cabin Pressure can be downloaded for free if you search for the podcast called:

CumberBin's Treasure

Bubblysqueak · 25/11/2018 15:16

Contigo are really good.
How about a shewee for when she's stuck in traffic GrinWink

Meet0nTheIedge · 25/11/2018 15:25

The problem is that if she likes coffee she probably already has a good travel mug. CD boxset of audio books is a good idea but you might want to try and sound out what she likes, Cabin Pressure does seem very love it or hate it, we were talking about it at work the other day.

explodingkittensexpansion · 25/11/2018 18:44

New cars and laptops don't have cd players. If someone gave me a set I would have no means to play them.

Hairytangerine · 25/11/2018 18:46

What about a chilli bottle to keep drinks hot or cold?

Bearbehind · 25/11/2018 18:51

Not being funny but if she does this regularly I’m sure she has all the equipment she needs / wants.

Go for something else.

MrsAird · 25/11/2018 19:41

if you're after a drinks flask have a look at sigg Free shipping all weekend. They have flasks called 'One' which are designed to be opened with one hand.

LizzieMacQueen · 25/11/2018 19:45

Bottle of gin. For her non-driving days obviously.

INeedNewShoes · 25/11/2018 19:46

A nice hardback road atlas. I know everyone uses SatNav but my book has got me out of sticky situations more than once when Google maps has failed me (loss of signal, phone battery dying etc.). They're also great for planning journeys.

greendale17 · 25/11/2018 19:47

Does it have to be driving related?

NationalShiteDay · 25/11/2018 19:52

Are the Contigo mugs really better than Thermos?? ❤️ My Thermos when I'm driving for work.

Interesting thread, lol at Shewee!!

iTunes vouchers would be welcome here for my long drives

Bearbehind · 25/11/2018 19:56

Honestly, this is like suggesting someone buys a guitar player a plectrum.

Stay away from the ‘linked to job’ ideas.

MrsChollySawcutt · 25/11/2018 20:04

I agree, I have drive long distances all the time and already have my perfect coffee cup and my audible habit to keep me going.

Would much prefer a gift not related to the hours of driving and traffic jams!

Redtartanshoes · 25/11/2018 20:07

Contigo (I’ve lost mine)
Costa card
Nice gloves (not driving just cold starts etc)

Zarya · 25/11/2018 20:18

Some nice driving gloves? Takes ages for my hands to warm up at the moment.
Or a nice car smell? Rituals do some nice ones.

slappinthebass · 25/11/2018 21:57

Costa vouchers? They are at every service station/garage I ever see so it would be the gift that keeps on giving.

Isadora2007 · 25/11/2018 22:57

Lots of the service stations franchises don’t accept costa/gift cards so beware of that.

I’d not link it to her job either- I’d go for something safer but nice like a voucher and gloves or chocolates and Prosecco.

SimplyPut · 25/11/2018 23:00

Driving gloves
Nice lunch box/water bottle
Pretty but reliable umbrella
