Main Present 4yr Old

Hi, I'm desperately racking my brain for a 'main' present for 4.5yr old DD. She hasn't really asked for anything other than a few small bits and pieces and I'm struggling to think of a main present. She already has a toy kitchen and a playmobil dolls house. If anyone has any suggestions or could share what 'main' presents they've bought it would be much appreciated!

Does she already have a bicycle and scooter?

JoinTheDots · 24/11/2018 18:31

Not helpful, but mine also does not have one. She wants a slime kit and some lego... I think there will be enough under the tree without a main gift, but her big sister wants a computer game, which is a main present (cost wise, if not size wise) and I feel a bit uncomfortable there is nothing she is really excited about under the tree this year.

Tesco sell these little battery operated bikes. We got one each for our 3&4 year olds. Only £25 each when we got them. Will not last forever but look a decent size to unwrap, is a very exciting gift and a bargain as a main £25 present I reckon.

MadeOfPaper · 24/11/2018 18:35

That's a good idea, I don't tend to think of bikes and scooters in the winter which is a bit daft I suppose! Jointhedots that's how I feel, she's kind of ambivalent about everything whereas her older brother will be getting something he has been begging for and will be over the moon with.

I agree with join - it isn't usually like this, but none of my dc will be getting a 'main present' this year as there hasn't been that big request or need. Dc3 will be getting toys as she is still very much in to playing - the older 2 will be getting money, clothes and bits, from the look of it.

Jamhandprints · 24/11/2018 18:48

My 4 year old has his bday just after Christmas and he's getting a scooter for one present and a kindle fire for the other. But he will be most excited about his stocking full of pound shop dinosaur bath fizzers and fossil dig kits.

Agree with the bike or scooter idea if she hasn’t already got something like that.
Our 4.5 year old is the same - doesn’t really want anything in particular. Our DD loves playing games so we’re getting her a marble run and a couple of board games.

MadeOfPaper · 24/11/2018 19:04

It's always the little things that go down best isn't it?! The past couple of years we've bought bigger things that have been quickly overlooked and sworn we wouldn't bother with main presents until they're older but I can't seem to resist! I think we're going to go for a bike though so thank you for that suggestion!

I’ve got a 4 yr old. He hasn’t asked for Anything. What is she into? Marble run, orchard toys games, domino rally, doll cot and doll? Mini baking set?

flowerycurtain · 24/11/2018 19:25

Mine is getting a Baby Annabel. She's wanted one all year and I've finally given in! She's only just 4 though.

If she wasn't inheriting her brothers bike she'd be getting that

MemoriesOfAnotherFuture · 24/11/2018 19:33

My 4yo DD has asked for a toy box so am getting a largish wooden one with her name and a rainbow

Doofas · 24/11/2018 19:46

DS here, also four years old. Isn't getting a main present, is getting things like a hole punch, post it notes, heavy bottom sellotape holder, envelopes, paper clips, multi coloured pen - all things that mean mine won't go disappearing or being used up!

SatsukiKusakabe · 24/11/2018 20:05

My dd is nearly 5 and will be getting a scooter and a toy camper van for her dolls as main presents, with a kinetic sand thing and a science kit. For her birthday, which isn’t far off, she’s getting one of those kiddie cameras and an Our Generation doll as a friend for the one she got last year as her main present.

The Playmobil camping sets are always well played with here, as are her Sylvanian figures.

qazxc · 24/11/2018 20:13

I've tried to get DD to write a list for santa.
Unfortunately the main present she has requested is "a seagull costume" as she has decided that when she grows up she wants to be seagull.
She has been practicing her squawking all week and refuses to learn how to put her shoes on as she will "have flying wings" and no need for footwear in the future.

letskeepbusy27 · 24/11/2018 20:20

My 5 year deal is getting a remote control truck, a magic box and a leapfrog reading and writing electronic pad. He's recently ask for an toy aeroplane which we got reduced but so far he's been easy to get. I've tried to do it by the four gift rule but have landed up at six.

SatsukiKusakabe · 24/11/2018 21:08

flowerycurtain my dd got a Baby Annabel 2 years ago and it was one of the best presents she’s had in terms of play value - still a constant companion.

OhioOhioOhio · 24/11/2018 21:12

My 4 year old loves the barking dogs.

Solasum · 24/11/2018 21:15

My 4yo got a Vtech Kidizoom camera last year from my mum. It has been played with far more than anything else he was given. Strongly recommend!

Scotinoz · 24/11/2018 22:07

My girlscare 5 and 3&a half, and neither of them have asked for anything significant. So, they're getting (split between them as trots automatically - they're choice - communal);

Girls World styling head
Traffic lights and signs from The Works
Hama Beads
Junior Bananagrams
Guess Who
Playmobil Ferris wheel

Scotinoz · 24/11/2018 22:08

Oh dear, terrible spelling and typos 😭

mimibunz · 24/11/2018 22:12

Could we get away from ‘main’ presents? Why do we do that?

dingdang · 24/11/2018 22:21

My daughter who is 4 is getting a scooter to replace the one we lost at the park earlier this autumn, a ton of my little pony stuff I bought second hand and a magnetic building block set. I'm thinking of getting a girls world or a baby Annabelle too for her as I think she would really enjoy them. I'm also going to get a new board game for her, but not sure what yet... stocking will be pens, stickers, bath bombs and hair bobbles and of course chocolates and a satsuma!

OhioOhioOhio · 24/11/2018 22:22

Because we can't afford lots of big stuff but want to give lots of treats.

beela · 24/11/2018 22:24

Op similar here.

4.5yo dd has asked for a couple of very small things, which will make her happy. If they don't want or need anything more expensive then that's maybe okay.

On the other hand ds has a more ambitious list so then I get worried about fairness and balance!

Sorry, not very helpful.

schopenhauer · 24/11/2018 23:14

Mine is getting a hatchimal, but now I’m worried it’s a bad idea!
