Alternatives to Co-Op Christmas meal deal

I am hoping that one of the amazingly knowledgeable people on the Christmas board will be able to help.

Just discovered that the co-op will not be doing there £10 Christmas Frozen Meal Deal this year. Does anyone know of any supermarkets etc doing anything of a similar nature?

For those who aren't aware of this it always came with:

Turkey breast joint

McCain roast potatoes

Aunt Bessie's yorkshire puddings

Aunt Bessies' honey glazed roast parsnips

Viennetta box (mint)

Button sprouts

Garden peas

As it is only me and DS for Christmas dinner we won't need a great amount and this was always perfect for us in the past couple of years topped up of course with an overload of pugs in blankets. Especially being on a tight budget it would be perfect to find an alternative. Tia

Oh that's a shame they aren't doing it this year.
Have you tried Farmfoods, not for a deal as such but they have good offers.

LokiBear · 24/11/2018 18:24

Iceland?

MysweetAudrina · 24/11/2018 19:29

The image of pugs in blankets is very cute but not sure I could manage more than one.

MissMalice · 24/11/2018 19:31

I’d go to Lidl or Aldi and get one of their roasting joints - you can get small ones for a fiver. You should be able to pick up the rest for the remaining fiver.

Prestonsflowers · 24/11/2018 19:48

Yes, I also thought that pugs in blankets was a bit over the top

Mondaytired · 24/11/2018 19:52

Hi OP can you start buying now? Frozen joint you can pick up for about £3.50, peas £1, roasties £1, Yorkshire £1, veg £1, potatoes £1... desert not sure what you would fancy.. but these are all everyday Aldi / Lidl prices?

MissMalice · 24/11/2018 20:37

I think I read somewhere that Aldi/Lidl are doing their 19p veg again for Christmas too.

fleshmarketclose · 24/11/2018 21:08

You'd get all that for £10 in Iceland if you have one close by OP.

Jackshouse · 24/11/2018 21:17

I have just put although those things into my tesco backets, swapping the turkey joint for 2 chicken breasts and it came to £8.75. If you swapped the chicken breasts for one large turkey breasts it comes to £10.76. Frozen parsnips and roast are so much more expensive then cooking your own and Christmas veg is always very cheap the week before. Comparing it to Tesco I’m not sure if the Iceland was actually that good.

ritzbiscuits · 26/11/2018 14:19

I think Tesco did Christmas dinner for 2 in a box last year?

BarbaraofSevillle · 20/12/2018 11:57

I got a small turkey breast joint reduced in M&S last week but the full price was £6, other supermarkets will probably have something similar.

All the supermarkets are doing fresh veg for pence this year, so you'll get your sprouts, carrots and parsnips for under a pound.

Small bag of ready made roast potatoes for about a pound leaves a couple of quid for a vienetta, tub of ice cream or whatever dessert type thing you fancy.

So I think you'll be able to get what you need for the same price from any supermarket, and not be restricted to what comes in the set deal.

Lockheart · 20/12/2018 12:02

You'll be able to pick up a turkey crown for £5 or under.

Parsnips, potatoes and sprouts will cost pence, especially as you're only cooking for two.

Eggs, flour, and milk to make yorkshire puddings won't be too expensive.

The Vienetta and the pigs in blankets will be the most expensive, but I think Iceland or Tescos have some frozen ready made pigs in blankets for a couple of pounds.

Missingstreetlife · 20/12/2018 12:09

Marks and Spencer or cook food, but more expensive. You can get veg anywhere. I got a frozen 2 portion turkey joint locally with stuffing for a fiver. Get online and compare shops near you.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/12/2018 12:11

Sainsburys do a fresh turkey joint for £4, Aldi veg is very cheap, the green jinn app has 30p cashback on cauliflowers in Tesco.

Oogle · 20/12/2018 12:25

@tiddledpink If it helps, I've just put your list into Tesco and it comes up as £9.05 for the lot, all frozen Smile
