Looking for a board game we can all join in, ds 5yo up to dm 70yo. Already have connect 4, charades, loopin chewie, hungry hippos and a couple of others.

We need some ideas too! We do have cranium junior which would work for your ages though.

BillywilliamV · 24/11/2018 07:56

Love Tummy Ache, Junior Scrabble is good. Mine love Uno (not a board game but still) Labrynth is fun and mine started Monopoly not long after they were 5 ( lots of stropping and storming off though) .
If you can find Tell Me that is fun, my DM loves that one.

I say this as a family who have been playing games every Friday night since DC started school, now 13 and 15 snd still love our Fridays. Tend to get various school friends and hangers on now too as they love it as well.

Seriously, I think this keeps a vital channel of communication open. Particularly between DH and eldest DD who otherwise wouldnt have much to do with each other. So important!

Dont forget Card Games, New Market is easy for kids, also Pontoon.

(My two taught next door "Texas Hold'em" when they were 9 and 11, maybe not for 5 year olds though! )

BillywilliamV · 24/11/2018 08:01

Have you got Jenga and Kerplunk, still play those!

madvixen · 24/11/2018 08:07

Pass the Pigs is always a winner in our house.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 24/11/2018 08:09

Dixit! Brilliant game and perfect for all ages. My youngest started playing it when they were about 5 and we also play it with Grandparents and even Great-Grandparents.

As far as card games go Uno is still the firm favourite with my 8 year olds - they started playing prob around 4/5 and could play it for hours on end.

blamethecat · 24/11/2018 08:15

We love pass the pigs it's our holiday game !
Uno is a good call will get that.

We have been playing Labyrinth and Coppit this week. Another recent card game is Anomia. Good for the brain that one but maybe a bit old for your children. My 10 year old finds that a bit tricky. UNO has been played with so much it could do with replacing.
Going to buy pass the pigs as sounds like we need that!

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 24/11/2018 08:28

I spotted a new version of Uni called Duo the other week - I am intending to buy it for Christmas - like a PP - our (3 different) sets of Uno cards are so well worn they could really do with replacing

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 24/11/2018 08:30

Oh and in Sainsburys yesterday I noticed a variation on Pass the Pigs called Posing Pandas. It looked kind of fun.

Another idea would be Yahtzee - an old game for sure but again, one that my DC started playing at around 5/6 and still played by adults

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 24/11/2018 08:32

I tell a lie - the updated Uno is called Dos - not Duo

JellySlice · 24/11/2018 08:49

Forbidden Island is excellent. The 5yo would probably need help at first, but this is a co-operative team game where you all win or lose together, so helping each other is part of the game.

Another vote for Labyrinth. Ditto Uno.

Tantrix is a good one, too. Very flexible in how you play it.

Hoo-Haa is a times tables card game, but very clever and fun.

UrbaneSprawl · 24/11/2018 08:49

My 5 year old can just about managed Dixit too. Dobble is another good game for all ages.

We also like Rhino Hero, which feels like a cross between Uno and Jenga, and is definitely accessible for a 5 year old.

ThanosSavedMe · 24/11/2018 08:51

Blokkus is a good one. Doesn’t go on too long either

IRememberSoIDo · 24/11/2018 09:03

Rubik's race is a two player game my dd's play in after school and we got it last year. It's so much fun. It has a type of dice that's like a Rubik's cube and when you shake it different patterns fall into place and the two players have to replicate it on their boards as quickly as they can. We played it last year with tons of family in a winner stays on type thing and it was so much fun and only about 18 quid!

Noddythefirst · 24/11/2018 09:05

We just love Scattergories. You have to find various words using the same first letter. For example, the letter is C and the questions are Something in a kitchen, Something at the beach, Simething in a classroom etc.

Ballbags · 24/11/2018 09:09

Exploding Kittens is an excellent card game for all ages. We also bought Duo but cannot for the life of us work out the rules! Knowledge is power on PS4 is great fun. Love Junior Cluedo, Scotland Yard and Yahztee too.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 24/11/2018 09:14

Oh no Ballbags I was hoping Duo would be as simple as Uno - just a bit different!

PinkOboe · 24/11/2018 09:27

Lurk

Slowtrain2dawn · 24/11/2018 09:35

Cadoo is great fun. Says age 7 up but younger ones are fine with adult help.

madvixen · 24/11/2018 09:54

Blamecat, have you seen the new edition with giant, inflatable pigs?

Ballbags · 24/11/2018 13:06

@TamiTayorismyparentingguru if you work out the rules please tell me. We even watched a YouTube video and were none the wiser!

Frenchfancy · 24/11/2018 13:10

Quirkle is good. 5 year old might need help. (box says from aged 6)

Blueemeraldagain · 24/11/2018 13:18

Junior Catan is great (and also good training for Catan when older!)
Ticket to Ride is great but maybe a bit tough for the 5 year old. If he was in a team with someone and likes trains he may just enjoy building the line of trains. I think there may be a junior Ticket to Ride as well?

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 24/11/2018 17:14

Junior ticket to ride is great - one of the very few junior versions of games that I think is actually a good version
