Staff room hamper

This is my first year of buying teacher presents and I was thinking of taking in a hamper of treats for the staff room at the beginning of December. The school is a tiny rural school so all the staff are very involved with all all the kids so I wanted to acknowledge that. I wondered if people think it's a good idea and if so what you would put in? Thanks Flowers

Yes great idea. Some coffee, assorted teas, hot chocolate, cakes/ mince pies etc, biscuits & chocolates. Check the dates & make sure some things last til after Christmas so any they don't eat can be left til January. Or if you can bake, make an assortment of goodies to take in. Best to take things in at the start of the week so they can be eaten if necessary (eg if homemade or out of date before they get back to school in the new year). Wouldn't bother with things like mugs cos they've probably got loads.

That's what I thought, all food or drinks rather than mugs but then I wasn't sure if they'd think I was bonkers 😂

Amazing idea! Anything edible and nice tea/coffee is perfect!

I'm so sick of Nescafé!!

In my experience a lot of the home made treats will be regifted... we have about 12 teachers as clients for our dog walking business. Every single one last Christmas gave us a bag of home made biscuits or sweets or (in one case bless her) sloe gin. All the other clients gave us wine or chocolates. A conversation down the pub with the housekeeper who looks after three of the same clients confirmed she'd also had slightly erratically shaped home made biscuits as her Christmas gift. But like me had much appreciated the sloe gin!

I’m doing this for my boys school. So far I have tea assortment, coffee, biscuits, shortbread, tub of heroes and I’m going to make caramel slices and mars bar squares. I know there’s often choc homemade treats on a Friday and they go down well.

I’m planning on dropping it in two weeks before they break up and on a Monday so they can enjoy it!

Great idea. I'd be inclined to do it in January when they come back though. Nice little pick me up to start off the term!

I do this for my son's school and they really like it so much so that the year I missed it out & sent candles instead wasn't a good year! I wrap an old box in Christmas paper & fill it with tea, coffee, hot choc, biscuits, mincepies, Christmas cake, Aldi stollen & novelty chocolates.

This year I've bought most of the treats from Iceland as most of their own range is palm oil free.

Bangwhistlepop2 · 24/11/2018 04:46

I don't include home made items as they're mostly binned or regifted. Most teachers are wary of hygiene in random people's homes so would prefer shop bought treats in sealed packets.

It’s a lovely idea.

Lovely idea. Maybe include posh crisps as well? They're always the first thing to go in the staff room on birthdays. And agree about mugs - cupboards are usually overflowing with them. Teaspoons however are like gold dust Smile

Perfect idea. Thanks OP, you’ve just solved one of my present queries Smile.

I guess it depends on if you can bake as to whether home made gifts would go down well. I'm a baker (not by profession) but I'm told my bakes are lovely & no reason to disbelieve), so much so that the teachers at my DCs school were gutted when they realised DC1 was leaving but then remembered DC2 would be starting at the school so the bakes would continue. I only ever take cakes etc as gifts (something for the teacher & something for the staff room) although this year I'm not keen on the teacher so not going to go overboard for them! Saves worrying what to buy & I can spend as much or as little as I see fit. I do also know of tales where home bakes goods haven't been eaten for various reasons Shock
