Christmas Day outfit for boy aged 5 (Not Xmas themed or a suit)

I have always bought DD (now 9) a nice outfit that she can wear for the rest of the year. Just like my mum did for me.
But I am lacking inspiration for my DS (5). I don't like themed stuff - like cartoon characters or slogans-, don't want a monkey suit and he already has a Christmas jumper (which he will rediscover on 1st December).
Any tips gratefully received. Thank you!

Cool, will head there. Might pick up a comedy t shirt to be a nice vest under his shirt
Boys' party clothes are not as exciting as girls' I am realising.

Cords are back. In...
Green cords, white shirt and red jumper.

It’s my first xmas with a DD and so much more choice in party clothes, restrain myself!

I think I’ll grt DS a shirt from next or marks.

drspouse · 22/11/2018 10:49

I make my DS fun party shirts; he's had one covered in pictures of sweeties and one with houses all over it. (Sweetie picture attached)

I agree about the clothes being no fun! DD now has some of his smaller ones and I was assuming she'd wear them with trousers or skirts but she prefers her dresses for parties (which are more of the Scandi bright prints than frilly type things) but I see her point!

We get DS a new shirt, nice chinos and a pair of trainer boots at the start of December for something nice and new for him to wear to his Christmas party etc. Last year he had a mock shirt jumper like this www.next.co.uk/g80438s10 and he loved it because he felt really smart but he wasn't all bundled up and getting too warm indoors.

Zara have some lovely cords for boys and some check flannel shirts.

apostropheuse · 22/11/2018 15:44

Navy or bottle dark green cords with a nice baggy shirt over a t shirt.

I've always bought jeans/cords/chinos and a shirt or top (like a grandad style,) to match. My ds1 gets too hot in jumpers or cardigans on Xmas day. This year ds1 has a long sleeved polo shirt from m&s and will get black jeans to go with it. Ds2 has a jeans and jersey jumper set also from m&s. I want them to be comfy as well as smart.

Thank you. Lots of nice ideas here. But vannabanana and drspouse I think maybe you did things the "right way" around. My expectations on dress up have not been well managed by having a DD first. V impressed by handcrafted shirt - was talking to neighbours about a new seeing course nearby; maybe a new year resolution.
I love the Duns radish top for under his shirt (Big Peter Rabbit fan).
Thanks all

Duns is very well loved here! I have a couple of tops myself in fact.
