Drone: present for young adult?

I know drones are not popular on here (AIBU about drone filming my kids in my garden), and I'm surprised they're still in the shops, from the cheap ones in toy shops to the really expensive ones in Jessops; I'm really surprised they haven't been banned yet. A young adult in my family has expressed an interest in having one.

Does anyone have any positive stories about them: people who have got good use out of them, and not got into trouble with them, and managed to keep them out of trees? I've heard they are quite difficult to control. With so many of them in shops, I'm surprised I haven't seen more people playing with them in parks. I saw one or two on Boxing Day a year or two ago, but I've hardly seen any since.

The key questions to ask is (unless it's an absolutely tiny one) is where will he fly it. There are government rules and best practice for that.

And I wouldn't give a present that was impossible to use safely (or even legally)

S there anything else he might like?

I know a few people who have them but they use them for areal photography, usually around the coastline and countryside. I was offered one yesterday but they are way to pricy for me, I do a lot of photography and would live to try using one but it’s getting harder to find places where you can use them.

It’s not really worth buying a cheaper one, your looking at £300+ for a good one, the cheaper ones crash easily and it’s just not worth it. The more expensive ones retur to you, follow you and come back if battery is low.

We have a couple and fly safely and legally. It’s a great hobby for a teen to get into and can lead to some fab work opportunities.

There are loads of model flying clubs around the UK. Some will have drone areas/days. Good ones will have someone who will teach your young person how to fly and might have competitions.
