I'm planning to do a NPB for my kids on the 1st when the Elf arrives. I don't mind if their breakfast isn't the healthiest but I want to avoid the biscuits and donuts I'm seeing on Pinterest. My kids don't like pancakes Shock.
Does anybody else do a special breakfast, I would love to hear your hits and misses Smile

Kids always like the mini cereal boxes as a treat. Also youcohkd use cookie cutters to cut toast into festive shapes. Red and green grapes threaded onto kebab sticks look a bit like candy canes. Jelly layered in red and green? Hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows.

Hideandgo · 17/11/2018 21:43

I swear to god I thought you were going to the North Pole and was all excited about to tell you you could eat neat butter.

MessyMoo · 17/11/2018 21:45

What do your kids normally eat? I'd be tempted to keep the same but with a twist. E.g cookie cutter toast into Xmas tree shape. Or some mini marshmallows floating in cereal etc.

candlefloozy · 17/11/2018 21:51

Following. I want to do this on Christmas Eve!

FoofFighter · 17/11/2018 22:23

Asda sell Christmas tree shaped crumpets

PodgeBod · 17/11/2018 22:24

Thanks Isadora they would love the grape idea! They really like hot chocolate but they don't like whipped cream or marshmallows on it for some reason.

Hideandgo Haha, I wish Grin

Messymoo They normally just eat plain wheatabix with milk. It's kind of weird how much they love it, they ask for it every single morning.

we do this on xmas eve as a present from our elf, we have croissants, pain au chocolat and xmas tree crumpets. we uae the xmas table cloth and accessories, napkins, xmas plates etc, santa chair covers etc. we have a giant cracker from b and m and I also buy a tub of swizzels sweets and cover the table in them....terrible I know but its xmas eve they have toast and cereal the rest of the year!!!

Isadora2007 · 18/11/2018 02:26

Asda and matalan have some nice xmassy cups and plates etc so maybe treat them to that instead of the food if they’re not really fussy for “treat” food. It’s good they’re enjoying healthy cereal etc anyway as they will get enough sweets/treats over the festive period. Asda also has nice Xmas glasses and a teapot/jar thing too.

Good idea @Isadora2007

I keep the food fairly simple for the dc, and concentrate on decorating the table. The dinner setting is very grown up, with crystal and linen, so this is more childish and whimsical. I don’t have a full set of Christmas dishes, just a few odds and ends that I mix with plain white dishes, a red cloth, some chair covers. I paint holly leaves on the plates with food coloring, and decorate glasses with paper wraps. A few paper snowflakes will be scattered on the table, and some baubles borrowed from the tree.

If I have time between now and Christmas I might sew some placemats and napkins from my stash of fat quarters.

PodgeBod · 18/11/2018 14:05

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've just seen shared on FB that Asda are selling cute little marshmallows with snowmen faces, I'll definitely be trying to get some of those and hopefully they will sell the shaped crumpets as well [santa]

I love this idea! Think I will do it Xmas eve!

SoupDragon · 18/11/2018 15:40

Turn the heating off so the kitchen is cold 😂

EsmeeMerlin · 18/11/2018 15:40

On the first of December we always have Christmas tree crumpets and the little boxes of cereal. It’s one of the few times a year I actually buy cereal like coco pops so it’s a big treat for my eldest.

I also put out little crackers we always seem to have and will put little candy canes on the table.

There is so much going on that it works for everyone to keep it simple.

AdaColeman · 19/11/2018 13:59

You could get some edible glitter sparkling snow to sprinkle on whatever they are having, looks good on things like croissants etc. Most supermarkets will have it in the cake decorations section.

Silver wrapped chocolate coins would be fun too!

Isadora2007 · 25/11/2018 01:19

Ours is next Sunday. I’ve got

a multipack of the mini cereals
Hot chocolate, marshmallows and whipped cream
Cookie cutters to cut toast and pancakes into festive shapes
Skewers to make red and green grape kebabs
Cadbury’s festive friend buscuits
Christmas small plates from matalan
Christmas glasses from Asda
Christmas napkins
Christmas poppers from Tesco- like party poppers.
A tablecloth.
Some craft activities to do after breakfast.
Small Boxes of smarties to wrap and hang on the tree.
Paper cones to make crispie cake “trees” that you decorate with sprinkles. We will then box them up for neighbours kids. (If they look nice)

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 25/11/2018 01:57

Nice idea! Mini milk ice cream lollies or mini white magnums spring to mind, to evoke snow/ice ...
I'd also try and get some mini jars of jam, hotel buffet style - my kids love them, they are "fancy" apparently.

WutheringTights · 25/11/2018 08:13

Make Santa faces on the weetabix out of strawberries, whipped cream and cut up fruit?
