How do your primary age DC listen to music in their rooms?

For a main present, I want to buy dds (9 & 7) something that allows them to listen to music in their rooms.

What do other people do? Until now they've only had cd players and story CDs. Want to encourage some musical exploration...

Also pondering a digital radio so they can listen to kids radio stations

They're getting Dots for Christmas and I will get a family subscription, they're only £20/25 in the sales atm.

Misty9 I'm also not keen on Amazon. But is there any alternative to these voice-control things? I don't think so. Unless you load up MP3 player and buy a speaker.

Following, I don’t want my guys to have dots in their room as they’ll drive me nuts with jokes and questions and blaring music. They love audio books so need to find a way for them to listen to those

Nope. Mine wouldnt listen in their rooms!

My dd has a CD player that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker she can use from a tablet or phone which works very well for her as it enables her to use both methods especiaĺly with an awful lot of audio books. She is older though so a tablet or phone is more useful. It's like this one...www.argos.co.uk/product/5709832

Echo dot/Spotify/amazon music

FoxInABox · 18/11/2018 22:29

My DC have echo dots in their rooms also. We have the family plan on Amazon music. They get used every day- for music, the time, timers, quizzes, games, facts etc.

Echo dot is only £19.99 in Black Friday sale at Amazon and Curry’s.

ValiaH · 18/11/2018 23:22

We have a cdplayer which also does radio so they either have story/ song cds or listen to classic fm

plaidlife · 19/11/2018 03:09

My pair have dots.

Oh good thread! I was just coming on here to ask what is a google mini? Does it work the same as the bigger google speaker thing? But it seems everyone prefers the amazon dot!

Can I ask what's the difference between the dot and the bigger one is it Alexa?

Obviously I'm not so technical so I thought I would ask here :)

Also I was thinking about getting my dd an iPad she's 11 but I hate her being stuck on games all the time! My brother seems to think iPads aren't great value for money! Any other suggestions which might be better? And also dd could use them for playing music?

Logoplanter · 19/11/2018 10:18

Oooh can I ask a question about the Amazon dot/echo etc please? Are there any parental controls which you can use to stop it answering questions which may be inappropriate? We're thinking about one for the kids to have in their bedrooms to listen to music (they're 5 and 7) but are a bit worried that the kids might ask it stuff you'd rather they didn't - eg how are babies made etc. Can you stop it answering such questions? I've read there is a kids version of the echo in the States but it doesn't appear to have been released here

At the moment a Bluetooth speaker paired with iPad, but getting an echo dot for Christmas.
