We started the tradition a few years ago of a big felt tree Xmas calendar. At the time, I only had 1 child, who was young, and spending £1-2 for a litte toy car etc each little pocket was ok.
I now have 2 children and vowed to change things after last year. It was next to impossible to find things a 6 year old likes for around £1 and both children were acting ungrateful and sulking if they only got, for example, a few chocolate coins that day when the other got a little plastic piece of crap, which they had lost by the end of the day.
I liked the idea of books, with a hiding place clue, but can’t afford that many books. I also like the idea of little ‘activity’ notes, such as ‘today will read a Christmas story’ or ‘write our Christmas lists.’ Not many ideas though and I feel they will be less than enthused with this.
Any ideas for me?
