Getting a phone for DD1 (10 ) stuck for similar 'wow' present for DD2(8)

So the time has come for us to get DD a phone. It won't be a hugely fancy pants one. And we're looking at phones for about £50-£70 for her. She is going to be properly wowed to get one as we keep palming her off saying it'll be just before secondary school that we'll get one for her.
Anyway - we are now totally stumped on what to get DD who is 8 a gift that has a similar wow factor for her.
Has anyone got any ideas of something suitable for a similarish budget.
We thought about an MP3 type player, but realised we don't have anything or anyway to load music onto it so that's probably scrubbed.
In all honesty I am truly stumped!!!

Does she like craft? If so, you could get a craft trolley and fill it with projects! My DD nearly 8 would love that. However she's asked for an Amazon Fire so I think I'll keep that idea for her birthday in Jan!

Thank you all so much - apologies for the delay in returning. I think the instax camera/karaoke machine ( although not sure my ears could bear it!! ), fitbits could all be possibilities but what you said EvaHarknessRose really struck a chord and you are totally right. It will be her 'phone moment' in a couple of years time so no need to 'buy up' for her or buy something big just for the sake of buying.
As for the electric scooter - that nearly descended into chaos grin - luckily I wouldn't trust my lovely, but ever so slightly careless 8 year old on anything motorised just yet!! But maybe someone else might see the links and think they are just the ticket.
She does like crafty stuff so that's also another option. Or even the echo dot - although not sure how they work really so will off and google.
Thanks all - much appreciated.

If she likes crafts why not get her a sewing machine.

lizzie yes, that's also on my list to look at thanks to ricekrispie22's link above. Although DD1 is probably more interested in seeing and has a bday in Jan so I may save that for her. DD2 just likes the mess of crafting more than the final result Grin
She loves cooking so possibly I might look for some kid friendly cookery classes maybe.

Having just tested the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition, through MN, I 100% recommend it. If she doesn't already have a tablet then it would equal a phone, and you can get better than this, they've really thought about it from a parents point of view

If you think an mp3 player would be good for her then you dont necessarily need a way to pusic on it.

Most mp3 players eg. Ipod touch are smart now and she would be able to stresm music for free using apps like spotify or youtube if she had wifi.
