Robot for an adult....?!

DP has given me no ideas at all for Christmas and his December birthday, but said maybe I could get him something he and DS could enjoy together and suggested maybe a robot of some kind?!
Have already bought DS presents so this is definitely a Dad gift, not a kid gift, but he wants them to have fun together with it. DS is almost 6 and quite techy.
Anyone got anything suitable they would recommend? I've looked at LittleBits Droid Inventor Kit and Anki Cozmo. Any suggestions welcome.
Budget £150-ish...

Get him a robot Hoover - you'll he'll love it Grin

Can only offer Lego as a suggestion - we had motorised when we were little

Watching for ideas!

The antweight looks cool, but I think he's thinking more coding than combat.
Lego is a good idea - they both have loads of it. Looked at Lego Boost but it definitely is for kids - I'll look to see if they have an older version that might appeal.
More ideas welcome!

DS2 has asked for cozmo, the videos look great.

Lego do different robots as well.

We have raspberry pis which then bought some build your own robot kits that the pi sits in and controls

You can buy the 16+ technic Lego kits - there must be a robot one? And you can buy seperate motors/controllers so it can do more and if your DH is into coding he could almost very set it up to be controlled by a raspberry pi. Would all take some creativity and independent thought/work though - is that his style?

The Thames and Kosmos Robotics Workshop is highly recommended and is just slightly above your budget. Otherwise, look at the Makeblock robot starter kit.

Lego Mindstorms is amazing, but well out of your budget new. If you haunt ebay you can often get a good deal though.

Sadik · 11/11/2018 10:49

I'm just about to pass on our lego mindstorms set - dd's now 16 and building electronics projects at college, and realistically I won't actually use it on my own :( (Going off to cousins though so will get a good home :) )

And yes yes to it being a perfect dad present (well, I'm a lego-loving mum, but YKWIM Grin )
