How can I use fabric to wrap presents ? (No sewing skills)

I have a load of plain red fabric (old duvet cover which is partly being cut up for a school project). I thought I could use the rest to wrap presents (for the environment) but haven't a clue how to do it.

I have no sewing machine and no sewing skills. Just ordinary scissors and needles and thread.

Any ideas?

I would buy some pinking shears (zig zag scissors for cutting non-fraying edges on fabric) and then some gold ribbons.

I’m sure there will be lots of you tube tutorials on how to do it prettily.

I would probably go for smallish gifts only in fabric, wrapping them diagonally.

You could just put the present in the middle then gather the fabric all at the top, twist it and then tie it with some ribbon. It's really going to depend on the shape of your present though! It would be easy if you're giving a lot of footballs!!

If you Google Japanese fabric wrapping or some similar phrase, you should fine a plethora of ideas.

To stop the fabric fraying, maybe hotglue ribbon on one side and fold it over to glue the other side, sort of like the binding on a quilt. You'd need wide ribbon.

It's a great idea, btw! I have fabric bags I sewed years ago and they make me happy every year. It makes wrapping very quick too.

You can cut it in whatever shape and size your need and you can se wonderweb to make the edges looking nice.

Then use golden cord or colourful string to close it.

Try googling some furoshiki tutorials, it's the Japanese art of wrapping with fabric. It's actually quite simple to do with some square fabric and can look really lovely! Plus you can reuse the fabric too as a scarf, bag etc

Thank you. I knew there would be some knowledgeable people around !

Hadn't really considered fraying Blush

Will look up the tutorials

I have used drawstring bags for years. I made them by hand - no sewing machine. It took a few evenings but that was all right. I made them to fit the family presents I had bought that year and topped them up over the next few years to fit. Wine, books, dvd’s, chocs. My family love them and I have had to make a set for each one. Presents are all given out on the day then a bag blizzard around the room as they are sent back to the right person. They are good things.
