Lego Boost

Does anyone have Lego Boost and is it actually worth the money?

DS turns 6 at the end of December and is robot mad. He has lots of robot wars things and is constantly building robots he can push along with Lego, Magformers etc. We ha e been looking at the Boost today, and can’t decide whether it will be too complicated (although we’ll happily do it with him).

TIA

We have it - it’s great. You can makes lots of different things with it and it kept DS2 (6) occupied for weeks. Is it worth the money ? Probably, as LEGO goes. There’s probably more longevity in it that the Harry Potter train for example. Still expensive though.

Thanks ILiktheBred. Good to know it’s been well played with, and that it is good for a six year old. I think the price of all lego sets make me wince, although the suitcase of Lego he has is mostly that which was bought for my brother 40+ years ago!

Ds9 got it last Xmas and it's not been out of the cupboard since. He played with it all day Xmas day and that's it

Ah, that’s not so good! Do you know why he doesn’t play with it fakeflowers?

i have literally just bought this for my 6 year old son. have you seen the offer at john lewis? £128 plus a "free" artic explorer set worth £31 which links in and you can build a rover type truck thing.

i think it looks great. fingers crossed!

Equimum · 10/11/2018 21:13

livingthegoodlife, thank-you so much! I have already ordered it!

I had seen it was reasonably priced at JL, but I had completely missed the offer. DS has Lego arctic on his Christmas/birthday list and I have got a couple of small sets, but didn’t think I could really stretch to a bigger set if he was having the Boost. He’ll be over the moon on his birthday!

so glad i could help! i'm sure he'll love it.

Lego Boost is great if your child is showing interest in robots and how they work, as it provides a good introduction to the concept of coding (no coding required, it's all in modules).

We bought it for DS when he was 6 years old and it was probably a bit early for him, now that he is 7.5 years old he is a lot more interested in it.

Argos currently has it on it's 3 for 2 toy deals (but at the full rep of £149.99).

AvoidingDM · 11/11/2018 11:06

There is also a Lego ninjago dragon it fits into the blue one.
I think the JL deal is a cracking one, ordered it last night for a January birthday.

Thanks Poppy. I’d do sort of think DS may be a bit on the young side, but I’m hoping it’s something he can do with DH to start with and become more independent with. He is robot obsessed and I’d rather fork out once in something like this, rather than buy lots of sets that aren’t great.

Following this thread, for those that have Lego boost how do you store it?

Waterlemon · 11/11/2018 20:44

@toughday
We store our bits in a celebrations tin/tub.

Before buying, check that you have a compatible tablet/device. We use kindle fire 7 with ours, works just fine, but lots of older devices don’t work.

If they get really into it, there is a Lego boost group on FB

Waterlemon · 11/11/2018 20:46

The best thing is that during each stage of construction, the model will then do something- so they don’t have to wait for hours/days to finish the whole thing before playing with it.

toughday · 11/11/2018 21:03

Thanks @waterlemon, that would be handy, I'm sure I will have some of them tubs after Christmas.

My ds loves building Lego but most of the sets are built and then that's it if you know what I mean. I'm hoping that this will make it more interesting for him.
He has an iPad and I think it should work but my other ds has fire tablet so should work as well.

Will check out the fb group, thank you

Similar here - they have played loads with the robot, but haven’t wanted to rebuild it into something else, till October half term.

Then after taking it apart, they had a big arguement over which model to make, lots of arguing followed by sulking and then it got rebuilt back into the robot Hmm

toughday · 11/11/2018 21:40

Sounds familiar, I can see that happening here!!

parietal · 11/11/2018 21:49

dd (age 7) has a lego boost & has really enjoyed it. she doesn't play everyday but it lives on the shelf (+ a box of bits) and then comes out for a few days to play every so often. The game where it shoots a lego brick at any adult who walks past is especially popular!

We also have 'dash' from wonderlabs and then the dc can have robot races around the floor.
