We always have roast goose at Christmas and I would like to recommend it if you're looking for something new/different this year.
On the plus side it tastes gorgeous and you'd have to be a seriously bad cook to dry it out! It's also a traditional Christmas dish (turkey is an American import), it's just different and special. A real treat...
One the down side (before someone mentions it) yes, it's expensive and although it's a big bird there isn't loads of meat on - probably feeds around 6 - 8 people.
I cook it the day before (another plus) so I can spend more time with the family and less sweating over a hot stove on the big day.
Any takers?

We have a goose and a ham every year. Lovely!!

Although... we went veggie around 5 months ago so this will be a struggle!

I second this - we always have roast goose. I agree with all you say and would add that you have all that lovely goose fat to cook your roast potatoes in Grin.

... and the goose liver (chopped) makes a lovely addition to your stuffing.

We have had it at Christmas for about forty years. I start it off upside down on a rack, then pour off the fat for six months of Sunday breakfasts. I then turn it half way through.
We keep the accompaniments simple, mashed potato, sprouts, carrots and sage and onion stuffing. Apples cooked in butter and madeira.
Lidl have them for £20. I think they are fine to buy frozen.

Goose is amazing! It's so rich you don't feel you need as much as if you were having turkey. We always used to have a Goose, boiled ham, and homemade pork pie over the festive period. DP is fussy though, so we always have turkey.
