Secret santa

Hi looking for some advice! So this year my family have decided to do Secret Santa for adults only (brilliant). We have done this in the past and it was great.
But the rules have changed, we won't know who the recipient will be, you bring a present put it in a pile and it will 'pick one'.
Minimum budget is £40. Any ideas welcome?
TIA.

Red letter day voucher?
Something you want but no one else will...?

Shampaincharly · 10/11/2018 18:41

Bodum Coffee cup
Wine opener
Baking Stuff

LockedOutOfMN · 10/11/2018 18:43

I'd spend £10 on a gift to open and then £30 on a voucher.

Pebblesandfriends · 10/11/2018 18:43

How's that going to work? You'll have to get something generic or really random. Much better to know who you are buying for and get something they'll like.

GemmeFatale · 10/11/2018 18:47

Do it as a Yankee grab!

Shampaincharly · 10/11/2018 18:48

Yankee grab ?

Shampaincharly · 10/11/2018 18:50

Just looked up Yankee Swap.

peppapignonstop · 10/11/2018 19:01

Yes the idea will be like Yankee grab. Sounded fun, but actually tricky the more I think about what to get.
I'm going to have to go for a more 'random' gift 😂

Difficult

SuperSuperSuper · 10/11/2018 20:52

I'd go super generic rather than waste £40 potentially. £10 Hotel Chocolat chocolate, £10 bottle of wine and a £20 cinema voucher in a nice christmassy box.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/11/2018 20:52

For £40 I would push back re finding out who the recipient is. For a fiver and a laugh, would say ok, but you can get a really decent present for that amount and would be a shame to waste it

Waterlemon · 10/11/2018 21:04

That’s a lot of money to spend on a random gift! Such a waste! £5 fair enough but £40 is crazy!

We do £50 gift, but every adult writes a wish list and seals it in an envelope. (So you still get a surprise but it will be something you like/need) Then with the help of the older kids, the envelopes are swapped.

We then don’t bother buying each other any other gifts - every adult family member gets this one “family” gift. (Although most of the couples usually still buy for each other)
