We're trying to do Christmas on a budget this year as I'm currently on statutory sick pay and unlikely to return this side of Christmas. We've had to tighten our belts in all aspects of our life and as such can't afford much for Christmas this year.

For DSD we've got her 2 Lego sets (one big classic box reduced in the supermarket) and one supermarket brand set of a particular thing. She's also got the cheap version of Jenga. We plan to get her a few books from The Works too. So far it's cost us about £45 plus the books will bump it up to £50 then.

Written down this doesn't sound a lot Sad Any thoughts?

Ive just bought a joke book for £1.50 on Amazon for DS7 and I can guarantee it will be the top present on the day. Irritating, but much loved!

Ooh angel I'm off there tomorrow in that case! They are better than the £ shop quite often, aren't they? Fab bargains!

That sounds lovely OP. I'd disagree that she won't remember what she got as I can remember many gifts I had at that age but it's not the things you would think. We were very poor but my parents made a great effort and they weren't necessary high value gifts. My brother's girlfriend made a doll's bed out of a shoebox and I loved it. My mum crocheted a few blankets for it and my older sister made a few sheets from an old shirt, just hemmed and a bit of ribbon sewn on. I also remember getting a bangle that was made if chocolate but covered in foil to look like jewels. I thought Christmas was amazing!!

That all sounds fine, do you have a Home Bargains near you? They have loads of stuff that my DD (5) loves, pads/pens/pencil sharpeners and the like for about 75p each!

I'd love any more bargain ideas or spots so keep going!!

One year we were really skint, our DS was coming up to being 3, all we could afford was a really basic play kitchen & a few cheap bits I'd managed to buy from the supermarket when I was doing the weekly shop. In total I think I'd spent about £30 on him. It was the best Christmas he ever had, he played with the kitchen every day for years afterwards, when we talk about Christmas now he still remembers it as the best Christmas he ever had, even though he's had Christmases since where he has had hundreds spent on him (he's nearly 15 now) Sometimes the simplest presents are the best ones, look in home bargains, one year I got a Fur Real dog that walked, barked & did tricks that was £40 in Toys r Us for about £15, the only thing wrong was the box was a bit battered, he never noticed & there was nothing wrong with the dog.

I would bulk out with a few extras
Have you tried this website? toys for a pound

It’s well used in the bargain thread for Christmas on here, I have ordered a lot myself too. £2.99 delivery but there is so many good things on there for £1 all branded ,Disney etc too. Even a tenner on that site would get you delivery and 7 extra gifts! I received mine quick and am well impressed. Different toys arrive on their all the time, and at the time I managed to get some schleich characters and Pokemon and minecraft stuff for my son that was more than 5x the price else where 😁

I think that sounds like a lovely list for her - I'm sure she will love it! Lego is brilliant as it can be played with in so many ways!

My son is a bit younger (5 in a couple of weeks) and he is getting :

Lego classic box (from asda in sale)

Lego baseplate and a set of figures (but from Wilkinson so only paid £10 for 50 and they are compatible). Both of these are from my Nan but she is unable to be out to shop so I got them and she paid me.

Hot wheels garage (the one with shark) - got it on offer on Amazon as it was too expensive otherwise.

Beyond that, we will just get a couple of cheap stocking fillers from home bargains/B&M.

His birthday is end of Nov and he is having a party so will get presents from that plus we have some family who but for him so I don't feel he needs more than that.

The two things we are buying are the only things he has asked for and I know he will love both and that's all that matters!

I did feel a bit bad the other week as someone at work basicay suggested he wasn't getting enough Sad but I know he will be happy with what he has.
