Do you get presents for your parents from your kids?

I always get something from my son to give to my parents for Christmas. My mum is easy to buy for but my dad is difficult. My sister and I are getting him a good power washer between us Hmm but I can't think of anything personal to get from my son for my dad. They have an amazing close bond so I'd like to get him something meaningful. I used to always get him a photo mug but he's got too many of those now. Was wondering if anybody has any ideas? What do you get for them from your kids (if you do that that is)

Usually the school photo... framed (again) 😅

Or I frame or get a key ring or some other personalised tat with one of their drawings on

They made plates last year... I ordered a set you could draw on ceramics with.

That went down well and was their Xmas eve activity

We usually make something. We did salt dough hand prints/ salt dough ornaments/ painted baubles/ jar candle festooned with stickers/ painted vase and trinket box / artwork calendar and then as they got a bit older we’ve tended to do edibles like a ginger bread house/ stained glass cookies. We always print out photos from the year too as my dps and pils still appreciate a printed photo.

A photo calendar, can include nice pics of them both together.

What about a bag from the good bags co and fill it with something personal ie his favourite beer/cider or whatever and snacks ie pork scratchings or whatever is appropriate.

AllDriedOut · 07/11/2018 10:59

No, just one thoughtful present each from us all.

Greensleeves · 07/11/2018 11:00

My dad yes, because he spends Christmas with us every year and my kids have a close relationship with him and adore him

his partner yes, because she always joins us for a few days on Boxing Day and my kids see her as their Grandma

MIL not usually, we don't see a lot of her and don't always exchange presents - if we're seeing her near Christmas we'll get something, otherwise just send a card

My mother no, we're permanently estranged and I wouldn't give her the steam off my piss.

yes, normally little things like a keyring or some nice shower gel or daft socks. 'Proper' present from me and DH.

Stompythedinosaur · 07/11/2018 11:21

Normally they make something, and there is a photo calendar that comes from the dc.

We always used to get my dad grandad socks. He loved them and always commented on needing new ones each year. But photo keyrings, an engraved Zippo lighter/leather wallet/glass went down well too. I also bought him a 'this is what an awesome grandad looks like' t-shirt (but he died unexpectedly just over a week before his 60th so never saw it but im sure he would have loved it and worn it every week when he came to see us)

I got a free photo tile from the 'free tiles' app which are great quality. A nice photo of the 2 of them together would be nice.

ChoccyJules · 07/11/2018 11:32

The school photo.

DowntonCrabby · 07/11/2018 11:33

Over the years we’ve done:
Photo mug
Painted mug
Photo collage clock
Photo collage tea towel
Photo in a frame that you could record a message
Painted flower pot
Tiny frame photo tree decal
Photo baubles for tree

DowntonCrabby · 07/11/2018 11:33

*decs not decal

Bumbumtaloo · 07/11/2018 11:43

All of the presents are from us as a family (we don’t put gift tags on all presents) but every year (by request) I always get them photo calendars and these are just from my DD’s - these have gift tags written by DD’s.

NorthernRunner · 07/11/2018 11:59

I found a puzzle book for grandads on amazon, which I will get dd to write her name inside (love from dd xx)
Considering getting a personalised calendar for the year.
Maybe a vinyl

Ihavethistoo · 07/11/2018 12:59

Yep.

Equimum · 07/11/2018 13:35

Yes, but we normally give the latest school photo and other personal bits. This year, we have ordered a mug with a print of the eldest’s Christmas card design on it, and the tea towels that nursery sell with the childrens’ self portraits on, from our youngest.

MinesATreble · 07/11/2018 16:59

Ours normally make something, increasingly food as they get older. I think Christmas tree decorations are quite a good gift in this category because the recipient is under no pressure to display it year round, and if they don't want to hang onto it long term, it can quietly go in the bin in Jan.

Marmite27 · 07/11/2018 17:01

Calendar with photos from a shoot at the end of Dec.

My brothers’ family comes too so it’s all their children/DIL/SIL/grandchildren

Vinorosso74 · 07/11/2018 17:02

DD gives her grandparents a photo calendar-both functional and photos of her. We've done it for a few years now but not sure what age to stop.

WellTidy · 07/11/2018 17:07

School photo and something very small, like a box of matchmakers that dc choose from Poundland, from each child.

Angelkd · 07/11/2018 22:41

Another vote for the photo calendar as i do this for my dad and he loves it have to do it every year now x
