Santa is at a loss for poor 7 year old DD

Being the last of 3 girls I’m so struggling for ideas for my 7 DD.

We have bought her the OG horse trailer and Garmin Disney tracker (which will be her gift for the table as big sisters are getting Fitbits) and she has a few Lol...

But I like to have a few unusual, personal and thoughtful presents from Santa that will become special and held onto rather than the usual plastic tat that goes into the bin played with for a week and forgotten about...

Any suggestions for something a bit different, particularly from smaller companies or brands

And also what are you all just getting your 7 year old DD’s in general?

I bought a girl that age this Starry Sky Projection clock and music player - it was her choice and she loved it.

A brilliant introduction to chapter books are Wigglesbottom Primary school books by Pamela Butchart. There is a series of them, really funny, relatable and lots of pictures. She has written another brilliant series for when they are into reading a bit more.
We also love You Choose and You Choose in space.

@Stompythedinosaur

It’s a site called bowbeus.

I cannot recommend her or the things she make enough, not exactly cheap but my DD maybe gets a different one every birthday or Christmas and has them sitting on a suspended branch on her bedroom...

I’ll see if I can post a pic.

My 7 year old has questions (and realises that the store Santas are not real) but thinks that there is still one big Santa in the North Pole. And told me that actually Santa cheats- he leaves the toys nearby with the help of elves so he can pop them down the chimney on Christmas Eve.

But actually why are you astonished by the list? My son is not very ‘boyish’ and this list is great. He would love most stuff on it.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 07/11/2018 11:42

And I'd recommend Fantastically Great Women who Changed The World. It's a lovely book with great illustrations.

I got my gd 7 a magic fairy garden last year. You plant seeds and it grows very quickly. Then put little animals/ toastools etc in. Might fit in with those cute little animals. My gd loves that sort of thing.

KoshaMangsho · 07/11/2018 11:54

Oh my son loves a series called Lottie Lipton about a young girl detective who lives in the British Museum.

Jemima thank you, they look very cute!

Just thought of another much loved book - Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls is very good.

Stompythedinosaur · 07/11/2018 12:02

Re the Santa belief thing - I don't think that belief is necessarily an all or nothing thing. I am sure my 7yo dd1 has been told by others that fc doesn't exist, but she clearly wants to still believe, so I would say that she chooses not to examine the belief too closely.

@Mightybanhammer

You’re right you win, clearly the smartest kids ever born and the rest of us are raising idiots...Hmm

I do wonder with all that tremendous knowledge and insight you have, you might find a more productive manner to use it rather than hanging around a thread about present ideas for little girls when you, admittedly, have no kids yourself or it seem no fucking idea what it’s like to have one...

Ahh we have quite a few of the “Women who changed the World” and “Rebellious Girls” book, and they certainly seem to be doing the trick...plenty of sting willed females here!!

We also love the fairy garden range, I did wonder about one of those butterflie houses though as she is forever building snail and worm hotels!!!! Confused

My recommendation for girls of this age this year is Don't Call Me Princess by Kate Evans - brilliant illustrations and updated fairy tales... plus you can order direct from the author here: www.cartoonkate.co.uk/

For a tiny but fun stocking filler I am pleased with the purchase of a sticker for the lightswitch that says 'Nox' and 'Lumos' - Harry Potter spells for putting the light off and on! V cheap on Amazon. Also 'Light Side'/'Dark Side' ones for Star Wars fans.

Boohissmiss · 07/11/2018 12:48

Finding our store santas aren’t real doesn’t make you a genius . We have also told ours that those santas are helpers as some are just awful. It was worth paying to visit him at hamleys he has a real beard there .

Mightybanhammer · 07/11/2018 12:48

Fair point Jemima. Smile
I will bow out!

stayathomer · 07/11/2018 12:51

Always have to recommend Fashion Wheel and Lite Brites! Have no daughters but they are still a standout of my childhood and see they're selling them in Smyths now!!

HairyToity · 07/11/2018 13:37

@stompythedinosaur what rock tumbler did you buy? I have a daughter who loves collecting pebbles, and has asked for gemstones. Thank you.

Jemimafuckinpuddleduck · 07/11/2018 13:50

@Stompythedinosaur

Looks like your rock tumbler was a success, we have just ordered for our DD, went for the exact same model and stone pack as you have, congratulating myself on what a cool and unique present I have managed to find her (through your recommendation) as I listen to the sound of stones going round in the washing machine that I had obviously missed from her pocket....

Think she might like it!!! Smile

I have an almost 7 year and this is some of the stuff I've got for her. Not different but may be useful anyway.

Large doll house
Barbie car
Lots of different Barbies and accessories. She can entertain herself for hours with dolls

Disney princess doll set
New tablet
Board games monopoly junior, frustration, will get her some more as she loves board games. She also likes games to help with her spelling
Bop it
Buzz off game
She wants the unicorn poopsie thing as well Hmm
A pogo stick she loves playing outdoors and already has the usual bike, scooter, trampoline etc so though this would be something different for her to try

She's been struggling with her reading since she started school and has only recently started to enjoy it and able to read some stuff alone so I want to get her some books to encourage her if anyone has any recommendations. Probably looking at books aimed for about 5 years old with big print .

HairyToity · 07/11/2018 14:10

Just spotted the rock tumbler link. My daughter has no patience, so couldn't have it as main present. A month would be too long for her to wait! We're on a tight budget so can't afford it as a stocking filler. Think we'll go for the Little Pals Fossil Set instead. Thank you.
