What is everyone doing in the run up to Christmas?

We are :
going to see The Play That Goes Wrong (again Xmas Grin )

DS Birthday so we have a tradition of going out for a meal

Shopping (late night ) with DD ( DH shops online and DS doesn't like shopping)

DD and I go to London on the 23rd December for a mooch about and catch any last minute bargains

I'll see what's on at the cinema

We crack open the £2 jar , divide it and spend it on something frivalous (mine will be a cashmere jumper)

SixToEightInchesOfSnow · 05/11/2018 17:35

Ice skating
Garden centre with amazing Christmas displays and lights
London for The X Factor Final
Club Christmas party at bowling
Possibly Christmas markets in Manchester or York
I’d like some ideas for other things too!

SixToEightInchesOfSnow · 05/11/2018 17:36

Oh yes cinema for Crimes of Grindlewald

IncomingCannonFire · 05/11/2018 17:39

Light display/ santa somewhere,
Christmas postbox,
Pop to shops and allow the dc to choose a bauble for the tree,

BiddyPop · 05/11/2018 17:43

Drive around (having scouted best route in advance) to see the best houses out up after dark

Ice skating

Christmas Eve swim for RNLI

School Carol service in local church

Probably a new release movie if we can all agree on one

Almost certainly the Leinster-Connaught rugby game on 22nd, or else Leinster-Munster on 29th when doing NY with extended family

BiddyPop · 05/11/2018 17:45

I’ll do a few musical events at lunchtime near work as the other 2 in my household are philestines. My annual outing to the theatre is in the summer...

drspouse · 05/11/2018 17:47

We have smaller DCs and we try to
Go to Christingle.
Go swimming on Christmas Eve to tire them out.
Beach on the first nice day after Christmas.
Cinema (I want to see Mary Poppins).
Local children's Christmas show (lovely fun musical thing, shorter than a panto and more fun).
Might go ice skating too.

Spotsbeforemyeyes · 05/11/2018 17:47

We are going to see Elf the musical. I had to sell a relative but it’ll be worth it.

Nothing else planned yet, we’re Midlands if anyone has plans that they don’t mind sharing.

Mitsouko67 · 05/11/2018 18:23

So far have booked family outing to wild lights in dublin zoo and Christmas movie.

Love having dates in the diary.

Will book carols nearer the time.

Considering the panto and the nutcracker also.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/11/2018 20:25

We are going to Speke Hall for their Victorian Christmas and to the Lakes for a Santa train. We will also do a children's church service as well at some point.

reluctantbrit · 05/11/2018 20:39

We always go ice skating and the dinner with a group of friends.

Other things planes are
Leeds Castle for the market and visiting the castle
Christmas concert in London
DD can invite a friend for biscuit baking and movie

It is also my birthday, so we will go out for dinner one day and I have to Christmas parties at work

Nicpem1982 · 05/11/2018 21:15

We are

Going to see santa
Going to a local animal sanctuary for crafts with santa
Make bird feeders
Going to the zoo to deliver the animals presents with dd

Nicpem1982 · 05/11/2018 21:16

Oh gingerbread man decorating with dds friends too

Azera341 · 05/11/2018 21:18

We have a couple of traditions....

Christmas Eve - always go for breakfast with my best friend and our children and indulge in a bucks fizz or two. This used to be a breakfast with Santa thing but now we just go somewhere nice

Then one night we go on our pyjama night light walk where we wear our pj's and walk round the neighbourhood looking at the lights. We usually wear silly light up things and make up our own Christmas songs

We will go and see the new nativity film at the pics

Trip to the garden centre to see all the Dec's and choose a new tree decoration

I'm hosting a Christmas party for friends and their children and then the usual stuff.

We sometimes have a Christmas day out planned but haven't as yet, though I'm fancying a shopping trip at Trentham Gardens as its lovely. Or maybe a national trust property.

drspouse · 05/11/2018 21:24

Our issue is that we need things to keep the DCs busy between Christmas and New Year, most stuff is closed or doesn't have much on. Before Christmas it's manic with activities etc and we break up quite late.

Winterfellismyhome · 05/11/2018 21:25

We're taking the baby to see santa at Leeds Castle for his first Christmas. Then we're going to Edinburgh for the Christmas markets. We have family meal on Christmas Eve

giveovermypreciousss · 05/11/2018 21:45

Festive gift fair at nec, cinema for fantastic beasts, evening at warner bros studio tour to see hogwarts in the snow, see santa on Thomas the tank, panto and ice skating. We are alsoplanning on going London or York for shopping this year.

Stompythedinosaur · 05/11/2018 22:16

We are booked to go to Kielder Winter Wonderland and to a panto. There'll be a christmas party in the village too and a school disco. Going to a walk to look for holly is another of our traditions.

franksidebottom · 05/11/2018 22:44

Taking dd1 and 2 to Kew Gardens light trail, taking dd1 to bath xmas market, we are also doing a family trip to Winter Wonderland, going midweek so should hopefully be quiet (school training day)
Local garden centre trip to see the lovely displays that they do,
We'll also be visiting our local xmas market
Need to find something to do individually with dd2 and 3, not sure what yet. We will also be having lots of chilled days at home, I've bought gingerbread house kits to do and will do crafting

MissMarplesKnitting · 05/11/2018 22:49

Village carolling
Gingerbread house making and general crafting
Waddesdon for Xmas house light display, and market (booked it weeks ago!!)
Panto
RSC Christmas Carol production

Crimes of Grindelwald will be sooner I think as kids are chomping at the bit to see it.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 06/11/2018 08:02

Were going visit Kew Gardens, will visit local church to see their Christmas tree festival (annual tradition), seeing performance of The Snowman at Chester Cathedral & then visiting FC at a local national trust property. Christmas Eve will be a local walk with the dog. Oh and a mini panto for under 5s. I love the run up to Christmas!

Titsywoo · 06/11/2018 10:53

Now mine are teens we do less of this stuff but we will go up to Winter Wonderland since we live close to London and also ice skating at Canary Wharf.

MyNameIsNotSteven · 06/11/2018 20:44

Going to see Nativity! The Musical, another for The Snowman at Chester Cathedral and wanting to see The Nutcracker movie. DD thinks she doesn't want to see FC but funnily enough does want to go to the venue we usually see him at so will book for DS anyway.

Twinklz · 08/11/2018 23:58
