Gifts for older DA who has everything

I have a fabulous 68yr old aunt, but I struggle each year to get her something for xmas/birthdays as she seems to have everything she wants/needs and there are only so many years I can buy a naice bottle of something. She is very well to do therefore has expensive taste and is still very active/has a lot of hobbies but she has pretty much everything she could need for them. She means a lot to me and is practically a surrogate mother/GM, so I would like to get her something nice, yet reasonably priced. I've trailed a few gift idea sites and not come up with much, I would rather get her something practical than knick knacks or jewelry.
She likes nature, cooking, history and still travels quite a lot.

Your time!

A trip somewhere for the two of you or with your dc? (Depending on your budget / her interests.)

We already meet up regularly for activities and me and OH are taking her for a nice meal later this month. I'm not opposed to it but I'm struggling to think of things to do that we don't already unless I book something for early next year.

Tickets for a show?

A gift subscription to a history magazine/journal?

A bulb gift subscription.

Posh flower shops often do really nice flower arranging or wreath making workshop days that include wine and lunch.

Or bakeries often also do fancy cookery schools.

I'm getting my dm an afternoon alpaca trekking and feeding. She's around the same age as your DA and will love the day out walking amongst the farm and spending time with the animals.

What about sponsorship of an animal on a small independent farm zoo?

conkernuts · 02/11/2018 15:08

Some great suggestions, thank you. Will definitely check out some subscriptions and sponsorships.

I'd love to do an alpaca walk for myself! mental note to tell OH She is due a knee replacement early December so I don't want to book anything too physical as I'm not sure on recovery times.

Ah good call, knee ops take a while to heal and to be really ready for hardy walking on again.

If she's due a knee op why not look into one of those companies that send you all the ingredients to make delicious meals without the hassle of having to go shopping? Or a lovely hamper of treats that would help her while she's recovering?

Good luck, I find it so hard to come up with new exciting gifts.

Books! What period of history is she most interested in? Maybe get her a book bag, with a selection of books and a bar of chocolate for each book!

conkernuts · 02/11/2018 16:38

DU will be around so shopping shouldn't be a problem, I have thought about a hamper though, some nice cheeses or something.

She's into all sorts, tudor/medieval mainly, not sure what is good to get what she might not already have

Has she read the Shardlake novels?

Sadik · 02/11/2018 17:37

Interesting book & a small box of 'good' chocolates? (Tuck the receipt in an envelope in the book & then she can exchange it if she's read it)

KC225 · 02/11/2018 18:43

If she still travels, how about a lovely travel wallet from begolden.co.uk beautiful colours and space for wallet, tickets etc. For an extra 10 quid you can have it embossed.

KC225 · 02/11/2018 19:07

Sorry should have said space for passport

goose1964 · 03/11/2018 12:26

Jigsaw, if she's having a hip replacement she'll need to spend time off her feet, you can also get lap trays to do them on
