Cooking gifts?

If you like cooking what would you like as a gift? Or what was your best gift? Budget less than £30 so I'm struggling.

Decent bottle of olive oil.

Nice chocolate, although that would probably be eating rather than cooking!

Frustratedfrenchie · 01/11/2018 22:42

A good knife
Truffle oil
Cookbook of favourite chef
Chilli sauces
Chopping board
Voucher for Nisbets?

A few from my husband (who is a chef!)

What sort of cooking do they like?

I will echo a good knife, and point out T K Maxx often have excellent bargains in terms of knives.

Depending on taste perhaps something cuisine specific (balti dishes, pizza stone, nice BBQ skewers, etc).

Cooking class perhaps?

LeMesmer · 02/11/2018 01:01

Again good knives. A cookbook of something I don’t cook very often, something new to try. Voucher for a shop that sells ingredients I use a lot, cookery class for something new.

What I would hate (if that’s useful) is some sort of cooking kit - everything to make your own sponge cake type of thing.

It depends on the recipient really. I cook every day for the family, which I enjoy but struggle to find different things, so a recipe book with new ideas would be great for me.

Related to knives, I’d really love a proper knife sharpener. I’d also really like an electric meat grinder so I could make my own sausage. My OH bought me a hand crank one and it really didn’t work but that’s because it has a plastic body instead of metal.

Last year I got my OH a curry subscription from The Spicery and the really enjoyed it.

There’s always a couple of new celebrity recipe books out for Christmas.

A really good virgin olive oil and a balsamic vinegar.

M&S and Waitrose have some good ones.

Felicity Cloake, Guardian Food Writer has just released her new book which is on my list, she's a great writer.

A bottle of really good balsamic vinegar
A nice pie dish and a pie bird plus some baking beans
One of those old fashioned big mixing bowls filled with fun cupcake cases, sprinkles etc plus a Le Creuset spatula
Local cheese and chutneys plus crackers

TeddyIsaHe · 02/11/2018 13:58

A whetstone
Really good olive oil
A chunky wooden chopping board
Decent measuring spoons
Selection of really good quality spices
A really nice oven dish, something that can cook in and go to the table

I’d love any of these!

A foodie magazine subscription
A decent knife
Flavoured oils
A cookbook

None of those spice racks or mug cake things you see in shops at this time of year.

I need several gifts for food loving people and last night came up with what I think is a great cookbook so I’m going to get several more copies of this. I’d bought myself “ Together “ which is a collection of fantastic recipes and stories from women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire. They opened a kitchen so that they could cook for their families and meet together. The book is to help fund this. The recipes are fantastic, it is a really heartwarming and useful book. And is £10 - a bargain !

I love cookery books. Last Christmas I got a lovely ladle, a knife and a mixed bag of cake decorating stuff from TKMaxx. I didn't use all of it but it was a brilliant fun present.

JingsMahBucket · 03/11/2018 01:18

@Sahara123 I’m planning to buy that for myself in a couple of weeks actually. Smile The sample recipes look good and both vegetarian OH and I can eat them.

FeedingFrenzy5 · 03/11/2018 07:53

A mandoline or microplane? A lovely salad bowl?

merlotmummy14 · 03/11/2018 08:31

How about some home made meat/veg spice rubs in Ikea jars? Only takes about half an hour to make, has a nice home made touch and you can put them in a gift box or basket to make them look pretty. Lots of recipes online. Would probably only cost max 15 if you made 4.

Lovemusic33 · 03/11/2018 09:45

Depends what they like to cook.

Wok and chopsticks
A good cookbook
Spices or even fresh herb plants
Fancy cookie cutters

I wouldn’t buy knives as I’m quite fussy about which ones I like (and the ones I like are not in budget)
