And, why are Waitrose not doing the choc/ginger ones they had last year?

you can get palm oil free mince pies in iceland x

Ceecee18 · 29/10/2018 14:39

Try Iceland. They aren't using palm oil in any of their own brand products and the 'luxury' mice pies definitely don't contain any.

PunkAssMoFo · 29/10/2018 14:41

Iceland don’t use palm oil in any of their own products. I heard their luxury mince pies were quite good (can’t confirm as I don’t like mince pies).

Mincepietimesoon · 29/10/2018 16:00

that's fairly unanimous! I've checked 2 sets of waitrose ones so far and tehy do.

The Waitrose One mince pies are palm oil free. Unlike last year.

Davespecifico · 08/11/2018 13:16

Bizarrely, the Iceland ones are for sale in our Selfridges.

mincepietimesoon · 08/11/2018 16:03

Good to know re Waitrose 1 - Waitrose have been not bad on environmental issues so this was disappointing

Selfridges press-released that, Dave! I reckon not many palm oil free options. I looked through every 'artisan' brand I found last year and every single one had palm oil in them.

rainbowquack · 09/11/2018 07:29

My homemade ones are palm free. Delia's mincemeat recopie is easy and much better than shop bought. (ESP if a couple of years old)

StylishMummy · 09/11/2018 07:38

It's so mega-easy to make your own and they freeze! I'm about to do a batch of 60 or so to then get a few out at a time

NoBarbaraGood · 09/11/2018 14:18

Help me out with this, please, StylishMummy.

Do you completely bake the mince pies as though you were going to eat them right away then freeze? How do you reheat them?

I would love to have 60 mince pies ready to go at a moment's notice.

Taffeta · 09/11/2018 17:20

I’ve got some mince pies in the freezer from last year!! Blush Not sure what they’ll be like.

I usually bake them then freeze them. Can stick them in oven to rehear from frozen.

anniehm · 09/11/2018 17:43

Mine are - pastry is easy to make using either margarine (eg vegan) or butter and can be frozen ready for use. Jarred mincemeat lasts years so worth having some in anyway. Good project to do with kids too

ShreddShreddShredd · 09/11/2018 19:15

Just checked my Aldi ones & they DO have palm oil in them 😠 bit annoyed as I didn't think to check before buying them.

youngestisapsycho · 09/11/2018 19:18

I read somewhere that Iceland’s £1 mince pies are nicer than their luxury ones...

Bangwhistlepop2 · 09/11/2018 21:40

The Iceland mincepies were my favourite last year so will be buying it again.

Shufflebumnessie · 09/11/2018 21:41

We've bought the Iceland luxury mince pies for the past 3 years and they are the nicest ones we've had (used to be fans of M&S but not anymore). They taste great and no palm oil :)

VictoriaBun · 09/11/2018 21:43

Making your own mincemeat is very easy. Likewise pastry. Once you've done that , you will never buy any again.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 10/11/2018 01:57

I'd disagree! We make our own mince pies every year but shop ones are so different that I still crave the odd one.

We had a bit of a mincemeat glut at one point and found a lush recipe for mincemeat cheesecake. That was a good day.

festivelyfoolish · 10/11/2018 12:51

after this principled stand Iceland deserves to be recognised and to get an uptick in custom:

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2018 12:54

Me too, @isitmybathtimeyet. The Sainsbury's bakery ones are lovely!

Bangwhistlepop2 · 12/11/2018 18:55

I just bought a box of 12 Iceland mincepies for £1.97 on the way home. Can't wait to eat them with a cuppa later in. I don't think they'll last the week. Blush
