Tiny Turkey?

We will be having Christmas Dinner with my mum and dad at our house. My mum and dad are vegetarians, my husband is a pescetarian and DS (almost 4) and myself eat meat. DH is happy to go along with whatever my mum and dad decide they would like but DS and I would like turkey. Last year we had one from the COOK shop which was still raw inside when we carved it (even though the juices ran clear)so it had to be chucked into a frying pan and pan fried to finish it off! Realistically for 2 of us we don't need a crown to feed 6 - 8 - any other suggestions?

The last couple of years we have had turkey from Cook too. I am assuming you bought a whole turkey?? We get the stuffed turkey breasts for two, which are lovely, and of course cook quicker that a full turkey. In fact we get 2 of them for the four of us, and there is always at least half left for obligatory evening turkey sandwiches Grin

Aldi and Asda do some decent ready prepared turkey crowns (frozen) they range in size from extra small to extra large and even say how many they feed too. I did one last year and it was really nice, used the left over in a curry....very Bridget Jones-esque!

Turkey joint is great - M&S do a really easy cook one in a tin

Having organic chicken here.

Cutesbabasmummy · 23/10/2018 16:38

OlderThanAverageforMN we bought the stuffed breast for two not the wholeturkey. We cooked it for the required 90 minutes and still raw in the middle!!! DAMJ I'll look into Aldi - we don't have an ASDA very near us. Thank you both for replying :-)

Look at a turkey joint. All the supermarkets here do them so I assume it is the same in the UK. They normally feed three people. They are available all year round.

FusionChefGeoff · 23/10/2018 16:52

Chicken?

purplecorkheart · 23/10/2018 17:01

Sorry should have said it comes in a foil tray and could also be called butter based turkey breast.

Alanamackree · 23/10/2018 17:04

Would you consider getting a meat thermometer, just for the reassurance. They’re always in supermarkets coming up to Christmas.

These look perfect for either 1 or 1 and a little one? I know my DS wouldn't eat a whole one so I could definitely trim off a quarter for him.

Cutesbabasmummy · 23/10/2018 18:25

Some good ideas here thank you. We did try a butter basted turkey thing in a foil tray from Sainsbury's one year but it had a really odd texture. Maybe time to try one again! And the bacon wrapped parcel looks yummy!

Go to a butcher and buy a rolled turkey breast. They can be ready stuffed or not, and you can get the butcher to cut just as much as you need. A decent free-range one should have a good texture.

We always have a free range chicken, which is never dry as it has a reasonable amount of fat.

delilahbucket · 23/10/2018 22:09

We get half a crown from our butcher. It does at least three meals for three of us.

Cutesbabasmummy · 24/10/2018 09:42

Thank you everyone - lots of alternatives for me to look at!

Recommending a rolled turkey breast - they are actually cheaper per kilo than whole Turkey's at my butcher, and easy to cook.

openupmyeagereyes · 24/10/2018 15:48

I would recommend getting a thermometer for inside your oven too, quite often the thermostats are not right and your oven can be cooler or hotter than you think.

Are you anywhere near Booths supermarket? orders.booths.co.uk/products/adlington-turkey-paupiettes/

Cutesbabasmummy · 24/10/2018 19:22

Sadly not. We are in semi rural Oxfordshire!
