Ideas for 2.5yo boy - Paw Patrol maybe??

AvoidingDM · 23/10/2018 12:47

I need 4x £20 ideas for my Christmas baby. He's 2 at Christmas but I'm thinking stuff that I can pull out later in the year.

Is Paw Patrol a safe bet?
Or is something else better?

My ds is obsessed with paw patrol but actually doesn’t play with the toys as much as I though he would, so glad I got them second hand off of Facebook.

At that age I found Happyland, duplo and things like emergency vehicles all were played with more. And toot toot stuff

Thecomfortador · 23/10/2018 13:21

My now nearly 3 year old loves sending things down the ramp on his garage (mainly cars), and a bit of toot toot track someone gave him - he likes making different shapes with it and crashing the cars on it. He loves paw patrol and lightning mcqueen but doesn't have any paw patrol toys, so not sure what they do. Lightning is, well, a car... He basically likes anything you can manipulate. The garage and farm are probavly his most played with toys from last birthday/ christmas.

Some ideas here thetoptoys.blogspot.com/2018/08/present-ideas-for-2-year-old-boy.html

My 2.5yo son loves Duplo, Toot Toot, hot wheels, he does love Paw Patrol but doesn't have many of the toys as I am not sure about their quality. He has a cracking Klein tool box he likes, that's deco worth a look

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 23/10/2018 19:56

My 2 year old loves wooden train track. Brio is the expensive version, but Asda, Tesco, Lidl, Aldi all do their own version much cheaper and it’s all compatible (in fact it’s all going to be in Aldi/ lidl this week). My son got some when he was 2 and he still plays with it at 4. We add to it with bridges, tunnels etc

AvoidingDM · 23/10/2018 20:26

Tool box is a good shout and something he doesn't already have.

Duplo i already have on his list, toot-toot he got some last year, wood trains were handed down with lots more from big brother.

I feel like I'm scraping the barrel of ideas. I'm loathed to ask for money, vouchers or clothes but actually it might come to that. I just can't think what else to get him. Nor to i want to have people buying for the sake of it.

Have a look at magic tracks. My 3 have these and still play with lots.

TheSteakBakeOfAwesome · 23/10/2018 20:32

Mine loved the Paw Patrol dogs and vehicles for a good year or so at that age - lined them all up and gave them mission briefings, allocating them and including any duplicates in the list of pups required to do jobs (so "Zuma... you go to... other Zuma... go with him") but she was very very in to Paw Patrol anyway. Those were the ones that come as a set for pup+vehicle and were pretty sturdily built near the start of the bloody dogs fad - I don't know what they're like now.

Happyland got played with a bit - particularly the big London bus one as it had lots of people to put on and off it www.elc.co.uk/imaginative-play/happyland-london-bus-set/132577.html - that one, or the train track set they do - but not massively so. Wooden train set was never a go-er with my kids - it's ended up going into school (where the contrary buggers play with it now) where it was descended on by half the class I donated it to and played with eagerly.

Duplo they liked as well for a good while, and play food/kitchen - especially the wooden velcro together stuff so they could make sandwiches with different fillings and pizza and stuff.

Hoviscats · 23/10/2018 20:33

My 2 and a bit yo DS mostly loves his cars and garage, trains and a ball to kick around. He likes paw patrol, fireman sam, Bing etc but isnt that fussed about the (few) toys we have.

Stickle bricks get played with a lot (and the 8 yo joins in :D) as does play doh. He also likes the various spiderman and other marvel figures handed down from his big brother.

WingingWonder · 23/10/2018 20:36

I’d club 3 together and get the ikea duktig kitchen it’s super played with for 5 years and still looks brand new!

AvoidingDM · 23/10/2018 21:15

Sticklebricks is another good shout.

We already have a kitchen, another hand me down.
I can't ask for the gifts to be combined as I'm looking for ideas for different aunties and for birthday and Christmas.

I don't really want to suggest bigger things that are joint Birthday / Christmas gifts esp not at this stage, people which Christmas Birthdays tend not to like joint gifts.

My DS is 2.2 and we've got him the Happyland mega construction set and a wooden workbench plus some little bits.
His favourite toys at the moment are his car mega jump, remote control cars and his sister's baby doll and pram. He also loves those magnetic tiles.

SmallAndFarAway · 23/10/2018 21:20

Paw patrol isn't great value for money, to say the least... I would ask for Duplo and smaller train accessories - think the Brio self-going trains are a bit less than £20 and they have been a huge hit here.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 23/10/2018 21:26

Fuzzy felt type things?
Happyland

CoffeeAndCakeEssentials · 23/10/2018 21:30

Look at Bruder toys, exact replicas of vehicles (cranes, cement mixer, bin lorry, tractors etc). They're large but will be played with for years and so robust. It's pricey but their collection can be added to or people can club together to buy a larger item

Lookingforadvice123 · 23/10/2018 21:33

My son is 2.10 (turns 3 this Christmas) and last Christmas he got so many transport related toys - an aeroplane, rubbish truck, emergency services vehicles. He still plays with them almost a year on (he loves anything with wheels) so definitely worth the money. He also has a ton of Thomas trains from a generous neighbour with older sons, complete with loads of wooden track, which has also kept him entertained for over a year now.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 23/10/2018 21:51

The happyland stuff went down very well with both mine at that age. It's pretty decent quality and there are a fair few sets under £20. The safari adventure play set is cute imo.

This www.brightminds.co.uk/collections/toys-for-2-year-olds/products/djeco-topanifarm-cubes-for-infants is lovely I think and comes in under the £20 budget. Dd had that or very similar, since passed on to younger cousins and gets lots of play.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 23/10/2018 21:58

Actually looking again those Djeco cubes aren't wood so not what we had. Still very cute though Smile.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 23/10/2018 22:00

Playmobil? Ds was 2 when he got his first set and at almost 4, he still loves it. In fact it's the top of his Christmas list again this year.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/10/2018 08:12

DS was obsessed with cutting fruit / veg at that point, so we got him the M&D wooden cutting set, which he loved (and still does, 2 years' later, though not as much!).

Cofogirl · 24/10/2018 09:21

Magnetic tiles are a great hit for my nearly 2 and nearly 4 year old. The expensive ones are called magnatiles but children’s hub do a version which is just as good. They love building towers and houses with them and they are easy to stack up and put away!
