Where can I buy inexpensive cake tins?

Cake tins are £££££££.

I have been making Christmas cakes for family as presents and will also make mince pies etc. I need either plain or Christmas-like tins that are big enough to hold a cake.

Anyone seen any not-so-££ tins or can recommend a tin of biscuits that will be big enough to use after we have eaten all the biscuits.

Dunelm do them pretty cheap in loads of sizes. So does home sense or TK Maxx

HeyMacWey · 21/10/2018 15:34

I'm sure home bargains had some in recently

Lwmommy · 21/10/2018 15:34

Aldi and lidl usually start doing xmas ones around november time.

B&M are where I buy decent cake tins.

NannyR · 21/10/2018 15:36

In the past I've bought them from home bargains, Christmas themed, maybe 20cm square, about £2 each. I've not looked to see if they have them this year.

Sainsbury do some brilliant cake tins/baking trays.
They are really heavy, non-stick , a very dark grey rather than black. The label has purple on it (cannot remember the name but its an own brand)
Very often on 50% off .

Probably not the answer you’re looking for but I often make my own novelty shaped cake tins out of cardboard and tinfoil when I want a particular shape or size.

Tiger often have them, I bought them last year for homemade gifts

Lovemusic33 · 21/10/2018 15:40

Lidl do them every year, usually in a set of 3 (in different sizes).

Ikea tins are not too expensive.

ColinsVeryJolly · 21/10/2018 15:44

I saw some in Poundland a few weeks ago

LadyPeterWimsey · 21/10/2018 15:44

Here

TheWoollybacksWife · 21/10/2018 15:45

What about cardboard cake boxes?

WildCherryBlossom · 21/10/2018 15:48

Ladypeter I love that Ikea one. I've never had a cake tin (cake has to be eaten very quickly in our house 😉) but contemplating a 2 hour round trip to IKEA now.

LadyPeterWimsey · 21/10/2018 15:52

WildCherryBlossom - I live 10 minutes from Ikea but I love their things so much I used to drive for hours when we lived further away.

By hiding the cake in the tin, I feel like I am giving it a sporting chance of surviving more than 24 hours...

BooEekCackle · 21/10/2018 16:00

I would imagine it will stay moist longer if it is in a tin?

Oh Xmas Blush cake tins not baking tins (though I still stand by my recommendations)

A few years back Aldi had a set of three tins with pictures of teddy bears in Santa hats (cute) then locking plastic gingerbread men tubs .

Either would be good for storage and well received .

greenlanes · 21/10/2018 18:36

if anyone you know is going to the states - lots of department stores do lovely Christmas tins. Real keepers!
