Boxing Day food

Just wondering what you all eat on Boxing Day? we are normally at a relatives where e have a buffet but that has been moved to the 28th this year. I will make sure we have enough meat leftover from Christmas Day to use but not sure what to do with it? Don't really want to cook another huge meal again.

Christmas dinner pie. Turkey, ham, chopped up stuffing balls and chopped up pigs in blankets. Put in a pie dish with gravy and top with puff pastry.

Served with mash, sprouts and more gravy.

I make extra stuffing, pigs in blankets, gravy and sprouts when I cook the Christmas dinner so it is just a case of assembling it and peeling some spuds on Boxing Day.

GrumpyOldMare · 20/10/2018 13:10

Leftovers from the day before.

superram · 20/10/2018 13:12

Turkey, chips and pickles-it’s the law!

Meet0nTheIedge · 20/10/2018 13:13

We do go for something different, eg lasagne, can be made in advance and frozen. No one here is keen on Christmas Day leftovers so we try to only cook what will be eaten on the day.

MumGoneCrazy · 20/10/2018 14:11

Cold meat and chips or another Xmas dinner made up from leftovers. Sometimes we make a curry with leftover meat and have that.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/10/2018 14:41

Pizza
I put the dough ingredients in the mixer , then watch it slow prove.

Then grate up cheddar, chop mozerrela , some sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, olives, onions .
Get a sauce

Everyone makes their own, bake and dig in Xmas Grin

Been a Boxing Day Tradition here for years.

EscapeToTheMoon · 20/10/2018 14:46

We dont have family over at Christmas just my dad. So we eat chips, turkey and peas with loads of bread and butter. Plus a buffet in the evening.

Bumbumtaloo · 20/10/2018 15:19

This year we have decided to have our Christmas dinner on Boxing Day. We go to my mums for Christmas Day breakfast and we are all stuffed and it seems such a waste of our Christmas dinner. We are going to swap the days round.

iknowimcoming · 20/10/2018 15:22

Leftover gammon with jacket spuds for lunch, then leftover everything with cheese pickles chutneys crisps and general snack food etc in the evening (this meal then repeats till everything is gone or I get twitchy about meat/poultry shelf lives and salmonella)

Goldenphoenix · 20/10/2018 15:24

Always cold meats, chips, bubble and sqeauk with chutneys, pickled onions & pickled cabbage. Traditional in my family and as hotly anticipated as Christmas Day turkey roast!

Littlelambpeep · 20/10/2018 15:26

We eat the turkey again but I do fresh veg and something like garlic potato.

Otherwise make a curry from the meat.

mumonashoestring · 20/10/2018 15:36

We usually have bubble and squeak on boxing day - I cook extra potatoes, parsnips, carrots and sprouts when cooking Christmas dinner and there's usually leftover turkey. If we've had goose there won't be as much leftover so we have ham with it instead.

I do make Thai vegetable soup as well though, I'm usually craving something clear, crispy and 'fresh' tasting by then Smile

My parents get their Christmas roast from a local butchers and buy something like a large game pie at the same time, and have that on boxing day.

MakeUpGirl · 20/10/2018 16:29

Always cold leftover meats with chips and salad. We make extra stuffing and pigs in blankets so there’s some left for Boxing Day and there’s always cheese and pickles too.
Then trifle for dessert, this is absolute law in our house and nothing else will do

mildshock · 20/10/2018 16:39

Turkey and leek pie, Jamie Oliver's recipe but minus the chestnuts. Served with mash potato, leftover veg and a thick turkey gravy.

It's DBs favourite meal, and as he lives abroad and Christmas is one of the rare occasions we get to see him it's becoming a bit of a tradition to have it on Boxing Day.

OneStepMoreFun · 20/10/2018 16:43

I do sliced turkey with mayo and cranberry, crusty bread, a baked glazed ham with lots of salads, cheeseboard and crackers, mince pies, yule log and Christmas cake.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/10/2018 16:48

Turkey sandwiches and Christmas soup (made from stock made with the turkey carcass and all the leftover potatoes and vegetables)

quirkychick · 20/10/2018 16:53

Another one who does Christmas dinner pie, Jamie Oliver's recipe. Just add whatever meat, stuffing, sausage etc. and top with puff pastry. Really easy but changes the leftovers into something different. Serve with whatever veg you have left or add more.

travailtotravel · 20/10/2018 16:54

Turkey curry nom nom

gilmoregal · 20/10/2018 16:56

Christmas dinner pie sounds lush!

We have cobs, cobs and more cobs, and cheese, biscuits and pickle/chutney. Basically all the leftovers for a couple of days there is no cooking.

Crikeyblimey · 20/10/2018 17:00

Turkey chips and gravy. It is the law! Heated up veg, apple sauce, stuffing etc. is optional but there is no argument over the staple meal.

We went away a couple of years ago on Boxing Day and teenaged ds was most concerned we wouldn’t have time for T,C&G before we had to leave for the airport. It I had purposefully booked late afternoon flights so as not to miss the tradition.

tissuesosoft · 20/10/2018 17:02

Any leftovers for lunch and then a Chinese curry (with the left over turkey) and dim sum for dinner

Ereshkigal · 20/10/2018 17:22

Huge pile of pan fried bubble and squeak, veggie sausages for me and cold meat for others, fried egg and baked beans. It's a tradition in my family and we look forward to it as much as xmas lunch.

Then all the cheese and biscuits later.

EvePolastriSorryBaby · 20/10/2018 17:43

Bubble and squeak! Yummy

NoWordForFluffy · 20/10/2018 18:13

We have party food on Christmas Day, so have a roast on Boxing Day. Not usually turkey, though this year we're having a turkey bomb from the Good Housekeeping magazine, which is chorizo wrapped in turkey and then wrapped in bacon! Last year we had lamb and beef the year before, I think.

Chrisinthemorning · 20/10/2018 18:18

Normally pork pie and cheese for lunch and bubble and squeak with leftover meat for dinner.
This year we aren’t having a roast on Christmas Day though. Thinking we might have our roast on Boxing Day.
