Kindle for 11yo girl?

My DD loves to read but we're starting to run out of room for more books at home/ I don't want to recycle her read books as I have younger children but I was thinking of buying her a kindle so that her new books aren't gathering dust on shelves!

Does anyone recommended a particular model? She will mostly use it at home but might take it to school occasionally

Don't forget that there are other ereaders out there too. Ones that aren't tied to Amazon.

I have a Kobo Aura which is basically the same as a Kindle Paperwhite. Apart from the added bonus that it directly links to public libraries for you to to borrow library books on it! For free!

So your daughter could join her library and get books that way, or the ebooks can be bought from lots of places directly into it, such as Kobo themselves or WHSmith etc

Kindle Paperwhites here, which are great. I'd go for one which is only an e-reader, i.e. doesn't double up as a tablet/for browsing the internet. The Paperwhite isn't backlit so great for read be in bed. It's the closest to an actual book I've got with an e-reader and I've had quite a few since they b came a thing (pre-Kindle).

I would go for something other than a kindle too, just for the library option. I have an old sony reader that I use for library books and then we all have the app on our phones/ipad. Also have the kindle app on them so you don't need a kindle to get kindle books.

Reading on an iPad or tablet is quite a strain on the eyes though so I wouldn't encourage that for a child. I've only ever used a kindle (and love them!) but the library books think is definitely something worth considering.

I have a kindle paperwhite, it's been put away as I'm using my tablet more. I'm find I am reading magazines and cookery books etc. So it's better to have a colour screen. May be have a look for a cheap android tablet.

Don't get a tablet, they're really hard on the eyes and emit blue light. A proper ereader is the way to go for reading books.

Also kindle paperwhite.

I bought kindles for my dds - they use their phones in preference though!

I have a 2-3 year old Kindle paperwhite which has never let me down, and I love it.

If she reads alot, you could sign her up for Kindle unlimited. I don't use it nearly as much as I should!

We got one for DD and I would say it is just 30% of the time compared to actual books.

One reason is the price, kindle books are quite expensive, especially new ones compared to the paperback or even hardback options.

I have an unlimited account and we use this for some books. It gets better when they get older and re-read books more and very handy for travel.

We looked into a Kobe as our library offers ebook lending. But the children catalog is tiny in our case so not worth it, the unlimited account works better for us and I have it anyway.

We got our kids kindle fires- partly as there is a library app that they can download free books on.

I also like that I can limit their screen time with the settings- including allowing unlimited reading time but limited other apps time.
