Naice Fried Breakfast Ideas

Please.

We've put traditional Christmas lunch on the Fuck It list this year, and decided to go with a fried breakfast in the evening.

There are three adults (one a vegan) and two kids (undmfussy, they'll eat anything!)

Will you please sling some ideas at me to make it "special"? Ie, not just the usual Saturday hangover cure big breakfast?

Well a fry up is a fry up. That's th epoint of it.
I'd use good quality sausages - maybe venison and berry or pork and apple; dry cured smoked bacon, scotch pancake stacks with maple syrup - US style; big field mushrooms fried with butter and garlic, grilled beef tomatoes, scrambled eggs with cream and chives, hash browns, fried bread, an dspice up the baked beans with Worcester sauce. You could add saute potatoes too.

For the vegan, field mushrooms in olive oil and garlic, fried bread (in sunflower oil) grilled tomatoes, vegan sausages if they like them, hash browns and spiced baked beans, spicy fried potaoes with a bit of cumin and paprika, vegan scotch pancakes (if such things exist) with maple syrup.

To make it festive you could cut the sliced bread into star shapes before frying it or fry eggs inside metal cookie cutter shapes such as Rudolph or fir trees

Sweet corn fritters with bacon and guacamole.

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 14/10/2018 12:49

Vegan pancakes are lush, actuaally! I had a dairy/egg allergy even before I went vegan, and I used to bloody love them with bacon and honey weirdo alert

Par boiled and pan fried potato cubes nicely browned, chopped up bacon, chopped tomatoes, avocado cubed, a little red onion finely chopped and fried off a tad add wilted spinach, season, basil with poached egg and a side dip of siracha. Freshly squeezed OJ.

Isadora2007 · 14/10/2018 15:58

Have some continental bits too maybe? You could get those bake your own croissants or add cranberry sauce to the bacon/sausages options. Definitely get nice quality sausages or maybe even do pigs in blankets for a Xmas twist?
Fried bread... yummmmmm

Ricekrispie22 · 14/10/2018 17:50

Have duck eggs rather than chicken eggs.
Scrambled tofu for the vegan. thefoodmedic.co.uk/2018/01/tofu-scramble/
Good quality Lincolnshire sausages
I like to have portobello mushrooms. Take the stalk out and put them on a baking sheet the other way up to the way they grow with crunchy salt and pepper. You can also use button mushrooms. When they’re nearly cooked put on Worcestershire sauce and the mushrooms get a nice varnish around them.
Buy vine tomatoes. Roast and serve them still on the vine.
Make your own smoky baked beans with a tin of borlotti beans, a tin of haricot beans, a finely chopped onion, half a tin of tomatoes, a spoon of black treacle or a couple of spoons of brown sugar, paprika and a splash of Worcestershire sauce.
Fried sourdough bread is delicious.

We had some nice mushrooms this morning, fried for ages in butter and olive oil with sage, a teaspoon of marmite stirred in at the end, served on buttered toast. Omit butter for vegans.

Alanamackree · 14/10/2018 19:16

I’d be a bit disappointed tbh if I was expecting a fry and got marmite mushrooms and venison sausages.

To me a celebratory fry would include all the trimmings I wouldn’t necessarily bother with but absolutely no funny business. Best quality bacon and sausages, black and white pud, mushrooms, beans, fried tomatoes, at least two types of eggs, potato farls, freshly baked white soda bread, fried bread and lashings of tea.

And a distinct lack of attention to the unholy trio of calories, fat and salt.

Alanamackree · 14/10/2018 19:18

I wouldn’t mind if I were told to expect marmite mushrooms and venison sausages.

It’s just that a fry conjures up a particular not to be messed with association for me

spanishwife · 14/10/2018 19:23

Butternut squash fritters, chorizo sausages (the raw, soft ones), slow roasted garlicy tomatoes, sliced avocado and beautiful soft poached eggs.
For the vegan, swap eggs and chorizo for a big fried mushroom?
I would also do some lovely bread, or something pastry style like some homemade cinnamon swirls or pain au chocolate.

YouBoggleMyMind · 14/10/2018 19:31

My DB does Breakfast Bagels (bagel with bacon, melted mozzarella and a friend egg on top. It's delicious 😋

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/10/2018 19:31

YY , if I was offered "Big Fried Breakfast" for evening , then I wouldn't want a load of other fried thngs.

I'm not keen personally on fried breakfast but I like brunch like that.

(DH,DD and I are vegetarian, DS will eat sausages , well cooked)

I do:
Quorn sausage , Quorn bacon, potato scones, mushrooms, eggs (however they want them done) beans, hash browns.
DS has the Sainsbury Taste the Difference chipolatas

Thick slices of cutting bread, under the grill.
Orange juice
Coffee

A couple of hours to relax and digest it Xmas Grin

YouBoggleMyMind · 14/10/2018 19:31

Fried egg!

Liz38 · 14/10/2018 19:39

Just in case, don't use Worcester sauce for the vegan. It's got anchovy in it (although you can get a vegan version of it from health food shops)

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 15/10/2018 10:46

Some fab ideas here- thank you!

Potato farls fried in butter with salt sprinkled on top.

Waffles!

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 15/10/2018 11:13

As in potato waffles????

I would TOTALLY add these to a fry up! 😀😀😀

The eggs will be from our girls, if they haven't stopped laying by then. Can anyone reccommend a brand of free range, cruelty free eggs, just in case?

The vegan (me) would be happy with a jar of peanut butter and a spoon...but that's not going to happen. I love the idea of Smokey beans!

This thread is amazing. I'm not going to give up my Turkey but will be all over a fancy fry up on Boxing Day!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/10/2018 10:55

Oh yes Boxing Day Brunch Fry Up Xmas Grin.

After the night before , you'd hardly think anyone would want food but they do .

We always have a pizza on Boxing Day . I put the dough on to mix then let it prove all day . Sort out the various toppings then the DC make theirs , I do one for DH and I to share .
Delicious .

WildCherryBlossom · 18/10/2018 11:04

For Christmas Day breakfast I'll be doing Croissants, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon with freshly squeezed orange juice We will be having the traditional roast stuff (not a fan personally) at the In-Laws late afternoon.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 18/10/2018 13:40

Waitrose Columbian Blacktail eggs - I used to have an office next to one of the suppliers' farms and they were so free range, they would quite often join me in my office for a little chat.

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley · 21/10/2018 10:25

Ill hunt them down- thank you!

(The egg brand...Not the chickens)
