Ideas for a North Pole Breakfast?

I came across this a bit late last year and we did it just before our Elf went home. I loved the idea but my execution of it was rubbish.

Has anyone done one of these successfully, if so what food did you serve? I'd like to give it another go this year, probably when the Elf arrives but I need a better plan.

I do a simple one on 1st December. It was on a school day morning last year so super rushed but this year I'll have a bit more time! however saying that I won't go overboard. I usually do the following:-

Snowman milk which consists of glass milk bottles (1/2 sized) filled with milk and a giant marshmallow on the top as the head, I get an edible icing pen and draw on eyes and mouth on marshmallow and dot a few buttons on the milk bottle. Then whatever ribbon/wool/fabric I have to wrap around the neck as a scarf - these go down well and look really good with minimal effort. I've been known to use those ribbons from lindt chocolate reindeer/bears before if I've remembered to squirrel some away.

Pancakes with squirty cream/choc buttons/slice strawberries so they can decorate them as Santa/elf/snowman faces

Raspberries or strawberries whole standing on the largest end so the point is at the top and a squirt of cream to look like santa hats.

Festive shaped crumpets and or toast that I cut shapes out with cookie cutters

That;s it really. I know on pinterest some people do loads but I always think the above is more than enough. I put a festive tablecloth on and leave their advent calendars on the table too.

They love it. Oh and also I forgot to say I put a candy cane in the snowman milk if I remember too!

Thought I would attempt something like this. Love his bacon scarf!

Food colouring in bottom of bowl, cereal on top to hide it then when they pour their milk on it magically changes colour!

Festive plates/cups and table cloths. Toast cut into festive shapes, pancakes. Few sweeties,( reindeer poo, rudolph noses etc). I have only managed 1 , but the kids faces was epic. I might try again this year.

Seal blubber and Vodka? missing the point

Oh I love the idea of snowman milk bottles, I've just been on Amazon to price some up. I think the kids will really love that one too. Those pancakes look great (although he may need a bigger scarf, that's never enough bacon lol!). Thank you for all the suggestions.

Do you guys have the "elves" set it up or do the kids know it's you? I tried to do it from our Elf last year and I think that's where it fell apart!

They know its me but maybe you could say the elf has left some of the ingredients or maybe just the snowman milk bottles from the elves?

I set the table on Christmas Eve when the dc are in bed cos there isn’t enough to do already last year I just drew snowman faces and buttons on ordinary glasses and wrapped a strip of paper round for a scarf. It looked nice with milk and washed off in the dishwasher. I don’t really do much for breakfast. A lot of the ideas on Pinterest are very sugary and it’s already a day when we have a lot of sweets so I like them to have a half-decent breakfast. I have some Santa chair covers and a red table cloth and a collection of mismatched Christmas plates and bowls and cutlery holders and napkins. It’s just more child friendly than the grown up dinner table setting.

Set the table with a plain red or red gingham table cloth and use snow-themed napkins. If you are going to do it when Elf arrives, why not buy each child a special bauble for the tree and leave it at their place setting with a tag attached saying "Love from Elf"?

As for food: American style pancakes? You could sprinkle them with icing sugar for snowy effect. Or Nigella's Christmas morning muffins (dried cranberries, clementines, cinnamon) which make the house smell amazing & v christmassy. As it's just one morning and you aren't going to care too much about nutrition (!) how about choc chip or gingerbread cookies in festive shapes & a mug of hot chocolate? You could buy some sweet little reindeer or FC mugs? My DCs love "snowy hot chocolate". I make it using only dark chocolate & hot milk so it's richer & smoother than powder form. Top with squirty cream & chocolate sprinkles/marshmallows. I should point out...my DC are now 14 & 18 and still insist that this is made regularly from the first time we sit and watch a Christmas film (usually mid-November) Grin. I love creating traditions like this. It extends the excitement and makes it a season rather than all the pressure being on one day.

I'm so lazy! Our north pole breakfast consists of a box of lucky charms, a box of pop tarts and some rice crispy marshmallow squares. All washed down with chocolate milk.
I make it extra festive with Christmas paper plates and cups.
The dc love it though

duckling84 · 11/10/2018 19:10

And yes our elf sets it up, usually on the first day of the Christmas holidays (which is probably why it's a bit lazy as it's the morning after my works Xmas do 🤣)

StarShapedWindow · 11/10/2018 23:53

What about a cup of cocoa with a candy cane to stir?

Ninjaplus1 · 14/10/2018 09:33

I’ve never heard of a North Pole breakfast. It sounds fun.
