Main Xmas present for 2 year old?

We have decided to buy mostly wooden toys for dd for Xmas, she plays so much better with them and we gave away most of her plastic ones.

But I can not for the life of me think of a main gift for her! Not a bike as she has a little trike.

Thank you

I much prefer wooden to plastic too. DD with be 2.6 at Xmas and is getting a small wooden kitchen as her main present from us. This one from Asda looks good as it folds down for easier storage if space is a premium and not ridiculously expensive compared to the £100++ wooden one's I had been looking at.

Wooden farm set. Definitely. My DD has kept hers for her own kids when she has them

Aldi do a wooden range in the lead up to Christmas, DD got a cot, dolls house, mini castle, wooden food etc, it has been played with heaps and really pretty

NurseryFightClub · 10/10/2018 21:11

Sorry I should add Dd got it for Xmas last year when she was two

I have 3 grandsons. Brothers 8 and 6 and then another grandson 5.
The middle one was really into food stuffs so a few years ago we bought a wooden tea trolley and then added plastic crockery and wooden foodstuffs
It’s now all been passed to the younger grandson and they all still love it
We have wooden cash register too so they can add up your bill
We have all manner of foodstuffs, wooden saucepans, toaster with eggs and egg cups and a toast rack
Eventually (if the boys will let me) it will all be passed in to my nephews daughter but at the moment there is still a lot of involvement with it all

Redken24 · 10/10/2018 21:19

We have a kidscraft kitchen and she loves it. Plays with it every day.

Second aldi, we got a wooden kitchen from there last year for £30. I also bought wooden velcro choppable food from Wilkos. The Melissa and Doug 'key house' has been very popular with my dd and any children who visit

Train set!

Redgreencoverplant · 11/10/2018 07:27

We have gone for the Plan Toys Doctor's Set :)

Equimum · 11/10/2018 10:48

Kitchen
Trainset
Dolls crib

These were the favoured toys with my boys when they were 2/3

naivetyisthenewblack · 11/10/2018 10:53

Do you have a wooden train set? It was our most played with toy, with both DC and DD and definitely the most popular with visiting adults! (Which the DC loved as then they actually played with them).

The beauty of the train sets is that pretty much all the different brands fit together, so you can get something that suits your budget and then add to it over the years.

Extra bits for the train set are an easy present for relatives to buy as well as they can get whatever fits their budget too.

I know it's not wooden, but we are big Duplo fans. Encourages motor skills, logic, building, creativity... and that's just when Daddy plays with it Grin

LaurieMarlow · 11/10/2018 12:28

Fixating on the material is missing the point. There are high quality toys and low quality toys and they can come in wood and other materials.

I don't see how you can improve on duplo as a toy for that age group, personally.

However, if it must be wood both Lidl and Aldi do a wide range of wooden toys which will probably be in store after the Halloween rush. Last year they had knockoff Brio train stuff, blocks, play kitchens, play shops, tool bench, etc, etc.

Just keep an eye out for them in store as they come and go very quickly.
