Neithernowofsummat01 - I've just done your suggestion at L'occatane. Brilliant 3 nice gifts for £24 and free shipping. The gifts look really nice too. Thanks for the heads up.

converseandjeans · 14/10/2018 08:05

Agree about the mugs - DH is primary teacher. I would just ask them what they like to drink.

Morgan12 · 14/10/2018 08:07

What kind of message should be written in the card? Can any teachers give an example of one they loved?

Bishybarnybee · 14/10/2018 08:08

I quite like a best teacher mug but I know I'm in a minority.

Love thoughtful thank you cards.

I don't work in an affluent area so I hate the idea of parents having to give £10 - or feeling they "have" to give at all.

I'm not wild about chocolate or booze, but would feel pleased and grateful if someone gave it to me and then be happy to have it to re-gift. Nice stationery or a £5 coffee voucher would make me very happy if someone really wanted to spend their money.

bluetrampolines · 14/10/2018 08:11

Something in the card about a particular thing your child enjoyed because of the teachers efforts.

Kraggle · 14/10/2018 08:15

I got a few lovely sets of stacking tins from magpie in the sale and will fill the smallest tin with Lindt balls or something. I’ve no idea who dds TA’s are or how many of them there are though so need to question dd on that.

Do people give teachers and TA’s the same thing? Last year I gave her reception teacher and TA’s a lovely notebook each and personalised pen, but that was in reception so we have less involvement now she’s in year 1.

Ninjaplus1 · 14/10/2018 08:22

I buy a Christmas bauble and attempt a homemade card.

ILoveMyMonkey · 14/10/2018 08:26

Teacher here, I love a Christmas tree decoration, I've had a few over the years and it's so lovely getting them out again every Christmas and remembering who gave them to me and wondering where they are now.

marvelmum · 14/10/2018 08:31

Some good personalised teacher vinyl for wine bottles or candles on eBay and at reasonable prices,

cece · 14/10/2018 08:35

As a teacher, I'd say not chocolates or wine. I don't eat/drink either.

I like posh candles, toiletries or Christmas bauble. I also appreciate lovely stationery.

ThePencil · 14/10/2018 08:38

I have a few family members who are teachers, and they ALL say chocolates, wine or a voucher! Basically something that can be used up.

They all say they don't expect anything, obviously, and really love a home made card and a thank you.

One received pyjamas one year! But honestly, most of the mugs, ties, gloves, photo frames etc go straight to the charity shop, as they just don't have room. Anything personalized with the child's name usually gets thrown away, because, really, they can't display it in school in front of the other kids, and who wants 30 poems about random kids in their house?

So, with the best will in the world, they all say vouchers (Amazon/coffee shop/local shopping centre) or something they can eat or drink!

FoddyWaddle · 14/10/2018 08:59

Would a 'hamper' for the staffroom be appreciated? I was thinking about tea bags, coffee, cordial and some nice biscuits? There are lots of staff that help my DC so id like to do something for everyone. So opinions and suggestions would be appreciated.

Rosesadie · 14/10/2018 09:03

Thanks NeitherNow just got 3 of the baubles for £28 so that’s the teacher plus TA then an extra one for my mum! Plus the free hand cream set which I can keep for me. Thanks for the link!

Just2MoreSeasons · 14/10/2018 09:09

Thanks neither I’ve just got that gift too, bargain!

3littlebadgers · 14/10/2018 10:16

Late to the thread I'm a teacher too (early years though if that matters) the amount of my own money I spend on resources to bring stories to life is unbelievable but I know the children I teach haven't got the real life experiences to draw upon.

If someone got me vouchers I'd be thrilled because I could use them for a few of those resources instead of my own money.

EscapeToTheMoon · 14/10/2018 11:39

Foddy-yes definitely! Its just not teachers who work there. Parents often forget the cook/admin/cleaners.

AgnesBrownsCat · 14/10/2018 12:30

Emma Bridgewater mugs are my go to . In the past I’ve matched them to their interests . So a map one for the traveller . Hedgehog for someone with a Pygmy one at home . Cats for cat lovers etc . The Newbridge Christmas decorations are beautiful but go for the plain silver ones as they are classier .

GruciusMalfoy · 14/10/2018 14:06

I stay away from wine unless I know the teacher drinks alcohol, there are a few at my kids' school who definitely do not. At Christmas I go with a naice tin of chocolate or festive biscuits, candles, or a bauble for their classroom tree if they have one. I try not to go too personalised so that the stuff can be regifted if it isn't to their taste.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 14/10/2018 15:51

DD's class has two teachers and two TA's as they job share. No way I can afford to spend £10 on each of them! I was just going to get them all a box of chocs/nice biscuits each and get DD to make them cards. Will that look really stingy? Blush

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 14/10/2018 16:28

No. It really wouldn't. As I said earlier, I'd hate for someone to spend money they can't afford. And poundland maltesers go down very well. Not that I'm dropping hints Grin.

dreamyflower · 14/10/2018 20:53

As a teacher, best present I got was a Costa voucher! 😊

Fakeflowersandlemonade · 16/10/2018 20:24

My favourite gift last year was a ringtons gift set with nice coffee, tea and biscuits in for over the festive period.

yellowsun · 17/10/2018 06:44

I loved getting wine, flowers and plants. Also chocolates so I didn’t need to buy any for the Christmas period! Nice stationery and posh mugs were good but il fussy about which mugs I like.

I’m not in class any more so don’t get much any more (SENCo). What I do get are lovely cards and messages from parents which are really lovely.
