Looking for a touch of luxury, in the South East for myself , husband and baby over the Christmas period. Any suggestions? Would like Norfolk or Suffolk especially for the coastal walks.

controlledremote · 07/10/2018 20:32

in that case, maybe here? we have been to both x www.waveneyrivercentre.co.uk/

DorothyGarrod · 07/10/2018 22:33

This place is wonderful: www.norfolk-luxury-cottages.co.uk

controlledremote · 08/10/2018 07:47

That's more like it but I really wanted a hotel setting where we just go down for lunch/food etc and everything is done for us. I did try The Victoria at Holkham, Pigs at Edgefield and they are all fully booked ;(
Have to be back on Boxing Day really so don't want the packages that run to the 27th as it's a waste.

Have you tried White Horse at Brancaster, The Inn at Titchwell Manor, the Blakeney Hotel? You could always book a nice cottage and then go to local pub for lunch?
Hoste Arms in Burnham Market?
Also look at The Flying Kiwi Inns who have places in Wells, and along the coast.

DorothyGarrod · 08/10/2018 15:17

I obviously ignored the hotel bit. Another vote for the Hoste Arms as it is lovely (if you get the right room, I'm not keen on the ones adjacent to the car park) and the food is gorgeous. The Victoria would be wonderful another time.

controlledremote · 08/10/2018 15:57

Hoste arms is a tad expensive but a lovely location (we know Norfolk
Well)

Have you tried the the luxury family hotel chain ickworth is your closest www.ickworthhotel.co.uk we stayed at another hotel same chain nothing was too much hassle

AlexaAmbidextra · 09/10/2018 20:45

Sorry OP. I'm one of those occupying a room at The Victoria at Holkham over Christmas. Smile Their package is 24/25/26 though so may not have suited you. Hope you manage to find somewhere nice.

GinFuzzy · 09/10/2018 21:12

You'd get more for your money with a 'twixmas' break. We often go away in the days just after Xmas or just after new year

theboxofdelights · 09/10/2018 21:34

I took my parents away for Christmas a few years ago - Great House, Lavenham. Absolutely lovely although it has changed hands since we stayed there last.

theboxofdelights · 09/10/2018 21:43

Have you been to the Pigs at Edgefield? I don't rate it personally, has the feel of a place that takes coaches.

Holkham Hall have some cottages - barefoot retreats - on the estate. Perhaps you could consider staying there and walking to the Victoria.

Or Morston Hall, lovely restaurant.

controlledremote · 10/10/2018 07:40

Thanks all, holkham you have to be staying to eat. We can only go at this time while other dc is away at their dads.

Decided to extend the search to London - anyone stayed at Claridges over Xmas?

OP posts:
christmaschristmaschristmas · 14/10/2018 13:24

Yes I have. It is wonderful with the tree and the decorations outside.

BUT it's also very expensive (even though it says from £4 etc it isn't - we paid nearer 10k) for 2 nights. And if I were to do that again I probably wouldn't.

controlledremote · 14/10/2018 15:22

Thanks @christmaschristmaschristmas I've just emailed them to find out. I'm wondering about the Shard too but we have stayed there before. Contemplating Ritz but DH has stayed , and he's valued the savoy so that's out! Just want something magical after a difficult year.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 15/10/2018 19:11

Claridges is wonderful. The staff always go the extra mile too. Nothing is too much trouble - especially for little ones.

controlledremote · 16/10/2018 07:58

I did email them and it was coming out around 4K all together. Will wait til next year so we can take other dc with us I think

Centerparcs. They have luxury options and If you book now you’ll have time to book xmas dinner and all your other meals/activists and the tropical pool stays open on xmas day and they have a winter wonderland on and fireworks/light display.

thinkfast · 16/10/2018 21:16

Centreparcs!!😂 OP is considering the Ritz!

mumto2babyboys · 17/10/2018 03:11

Actually both similar in price if you chose their luxury options and this is probably just another list of the poor pretending they aren’t on here which always seems to be the case

mumto2babyboys · 17/10/2018 03:17

Unless the ritz is something you consider ‘magical’ it is just a hotel lol with a concierge service I doubt many use. So what is there practically to do expect sleep, eat some meals and be bored silly and what can a child do stuck in a hotel room in London when everything else is mostly closed or will be insufferable with tourists and traffic on Xmas eve.

newcupcake · 17/10/2018 04:09

Tuddenham Mill in Suffolk is lovely

HollyBollyBooBoo · 17/10/2018 04:14

£4K for three nights...feck me!
