I'm struggling for ideas for DH. What are you planning to buy for yours? Hoping for some inspiration

Hotel Chocolat Tasting Club subscription
Lego Architecture
Tickets to see The Book of Mormon
Swell water bottle

I haven't even thought about OHs Xmas present yet, as his birthday is in a few weeks. He wants VR goggles for his playstation, so that's what I'll get him.

For Xmas, I may get him something related to the goggles, like some games. As we have so many people to buy for, we tend to spend about £50 on a main present and then get a few stocking fillers.

I'll probably buy OH;
A bottle of his favourite tipple
Socks/pants
Chocolate
Winter hat/thermals

No idea yet about this year but in the past we got hm

TomTom running watch. He uses it all the time, money well spent

Kindle

Laptop sleeve,

Laptop rucksack

Grid-it. She travels for work and now all his cables, usb sticks etc are not rolling around in the depth of his back bag anymore

Buddyelf · 04/10/2018 09:06

Thanks for the ideas. He doesn't eat chocolate or drink much so anything like that is out. I don't think he'd thank me for Lego and he has an apple watch. See - hes too difficult to buy for!
I ordered him cards against humanity yesterday, he'll like those, but I need an idea for something for his main gift.

A meal out somewhere nice
, a night away
, a hamper of his favourite things
, alexa
, tickets to a show or comedy event.
Men are hard to buy for.

Buddyelf · 04/10/2018 09:49

@tictac86 a hamper might be a nice idea! he has an alexa, but hes mentioned wanting the newer version that is out soon so maybe that?

A nice pair of slippers and a pipe, dear.

LimboLuna · 04/10/2018 11:01

I am getting DH this pen, but i don't know what else! He has got piles and piles of things I've bought over the years, lego, jigsaw puzzles that sort of thing that have never been done. I am skint this year so its going to be a struggle.
www.cultpens.com/i/q/TR60325/troika-micro-construction-pro-keyring-tool-pen
Its an allen key, a tyre tread gauge, a screwdriver, a ruler and a pen.

A meal out, tickets and a night away are not really a present though? I assume that you are all intending to go as well- so really just a gift for yourself?

Bumbumtaloo · 04/10/2018 13:51

Last year as it was DH’s 40th I bought him a new guitar as a joint present. I then got little bits and bobs like new strings, plectrums and a strap. And the usual socks and pants.

This year I have got him a new amp, a book about the rivalry between the football treats we support, a new wallet, and socks and pants.

I also bought him a book from the company belt but got too excited when it arrived and gave it to him Shock which he absolutely loved and has said it was the best present that anyone had ever got him.... yes I know I can’t top it Grin

Ugh sorry about the typos and grammar Blush

Of course they are. You've arranged them, you are arranging travel/babysitter if necessary.

Conseulabananahammock · 04/10/2018 14:07

Special vouchers always go down a treat here Grin

tictac86 · 04/10/2018 15:28

Its a gift of quality family time away from real life and stresses. Better then any material gift. People here are so quick to put others down. I would be really pleased and have been to recieve a weekend away with my dh and family meals out

LimboLuna · 04/10/2018 15:37

i think a meal out and night / weekend away is a lovely thought. Presumably you pick somewhere they would want to go rather than you’d want to go?

ElfrideSwancourt · 04/10/2018 20:06

Thanks Limbo for the pen link - I've just ordered one for my dad for xmas. It's just the sort of gadget he loves.

CakeNinja · 04/10/2018 22:02

Dp bought me some presents for my birthday to open but my actual present from him is a weekend away. Best thing ever.
With busy lives, jobs, hobbies, 3 dc etc (ie life!), we don’t spend much time together ever, so I always look forward to getting away with him. Even better when it involved travel, overnight stays in hotels and free time. Definitely feels like a present to me.

I’m getting him a caharti (??) jacket as he Said he’d seen one and not had time to go and try one on. And then wireless Bluetooth headphones so he can watch the tv without killing everyone else in the house with the surround sound. He clearly thinks our front room is some kind of cinema!
And then some other little things, like a tortilla press because we cook a lot (okay, he does), and make a lot of our own breads etc. We do Mexican nights and he grumbles every time that tortillas from the shops are rubbish!

Alanamackree · 05/10/2018 06:58

We’ve given up on the element of surprise. We have had years of not quite getting it right and have completely different ideas about gifts. So now we arrange an evening to go shopping together and pick out what we like. Works beautifully for us and it’s rare time alone together (babysitters are a massive luxury when you have sn) so we have dinner, and a movie/show as well.
I get a few smaller things like favorite or novelty sweets, a new tie, clothes, etc but it’s great not to have the pressure of picking the wrong a main gift anymore

YeTalkShiteHen · 05/10/2018 06:59

A 1TB SSD (fancy hard drive thing for his laptop)

Other than that I’m stumped, he’s got all the tech, and isn’t really into “stuff”.

oreosoreosoreos · 05/10/2018 07:19

This year DH and I have decided to go away for a few days in Jan as our Xmas gifts to each other - already booked flights and hotel and are looking forward to it already!

reluctantbrit · 05/10/2018 08:05

We do wish lists. So a certain element of surprise but something the other one actually wants.

ratherbeshowjumping · 05/10/2018 08:44

@LimboLuna fab gift, I've just ordered one of those for my DSF.

I'm thinking about buying my DH a camera but wouldn't know where to start. I don't want to spend over £250, £300 as an absolute max. Can anyone recommend anything?

chicaguapa · 05/10/2018 08:56

he has an alexa, but hes mentioned wanting the newer version that is out soon so maybe that

I remember that it was established last year (or maybe the year before) that all men really want is what they already have and love, but newer and better. So that would fit.

rackhampearl · 05/10/2018 09:40

Absolutely nothing this year. I've literally exhausted everything I could get him in previous years. Wallet, dressing gown, watch, aftershaves ect. All holding up well, plenty of grooming products to get through.
He buys himself what he wants/needs throughout the year. I used to make myself so stressed about what I could get him but I'm not going to bother this year. I'm just gonna make sure he enjoys his time off from work. Plenty of yummy food and relaxing before he goes back in Jan.
