New Years Eve?

Do you go out for New Years Eve or stay in?
We've got the offer of a babysitter NYE & wondering if we'd be daft not to make the most.

Really nice Gastro pub about 20mins walk away from home seems to be doing an event so tempted to book.
Going into town is a no go due to costs of travel back etc.

Normally we stay in, takeaway, fizz.

What do you guys do?

I hate new year, I’m all about Christmas. I find new year quite depressing, all full of people and how wonderful there year has been.
Sorry that’s not the answer you are looking, I’m really not a misery guts

NoWordForFluffy · 02/10/2018 07:24

Stay in as I've never found NYE to be worth the inflated price and I detest crowded places, which most places seem to be as well!

If I had a sitter and there was a local pub where I could have a few, normal-priced, drinks I might be tempted to go out for a bit but head home after a couple of hours, but I doubt I'd stay out til midnight!

EmpressJewel · 02/10/2018 08:38

We stay in (me, OH and the DCs aged 8 and 6), maybe get a takeaway and do some fireworks.

I'm not bothered about New Years celebrations, as it's cold outside, I hate staying up late and places are crowded and over priced.

skeete · 02/10/2018 10:06

I think NYE is overrated.
I've tried going out and doing something but I'd ultimately rather go into the New Year at home and comfy with my childrenSmile

SerenDippyEggs · 03/10/2018 12:04

This year me and DP are going to a lovely barn conversion in the middle of nowhere for four days - we'll probably go to the sea side and to some pubs but just have a lovely night in by the fire getting drunk Grin

Alanamackree · 03/10/2018 23:38

Having an iron clad reason to stay home on NYE is one of the perks of having children imo

meeeehhok · 03/10/2018 23:42

Another one that finds it very depressing! I'd rather stay in and chill

SimplyPut · 06/10/2018 13:50

We have friends and their children here for drinks and food, about sixteen of us.

We always have a babysitter on the 30th December. We stay in, drink champagne and eat seafood then spend the evening snogging on the sofa like teenagers. Definitely one of my favourite nights of the year!

goose1964 · 06/10/2018 14:14

We normally stay in now but when the kids were younger we used to go to the rugby club family party but one year we had babysitters and went to our favourite Greek restaurant which had a banquet on, thoroughly enjoyed it though.

MaMisled · 06/10/2018 14:26

When I was younger it was always a massive night out, then across 20 years plus with children, a massive night in. Now they're adults we're planning a massive night out all together and I'm really looking forward to it!

snowmanshoes · 06/10/2018 15:30

We're planning on going out for an early dinner, I'm then collecting some of the fab desserts from Marks' (already ordered!!) for later in the evening with other nibbles and eldest dd wanted to try one of those 'escape room in a box' games so I've bought what looks like a decent one according to reviews and we'll give that a whirl. Add in lots of gin and it should be a great night in!

flapjackfairy · 06/10/2018 15:35

Wow I am amazed how many people dislike NYE. I am another one. I feel sad Christmas is over and prefer to ignore it altogether.

Aprilislonggone · 06/10/2018 15:45

Dd's birthday is NYE so it's whole family to the Chinese buffet for 6pm!! Home for about 8pm and dc in bed normal time.

Me and dh watch a film and eat sweets! Mostly don't even see in the new year before bed!

Bumbumtaloo · 06/10/2018 16:29

We also dislike New Year’s Eve. When I was younger I always went out, spent far too much money and tbh it wasn’t that enjoyable. DH has always tried to work as much as possible in bars etc when he was single. Now 9/10 we don’t even see the new year in. We just chill at home with the DC watching a movie or something.
For us it’s just another day/night.

UndertheCedartree · 06/10/2018 23:15

We usually take the children to a Chinese buffet at 6pm and then watch the festivities on the tv with some nibbles. At midnight the children have some sparklers. Although I'm thinking of doing takeaway pizza this year.

Go out if you think you'll enjoy it. I've always celebrated with the children so can't imagine going out without them now!

WeeM · 07/10/2018 09:16

Hogmanay is quite a big thing in scotland so we always try and do something, usually just round to someone’s house for drinks and nibbles at the bells. Can’t be bothered now with going into town, too hard to get home and too expensive. However if I had a nice Gastropub within walking distance and a babysitter offer I’d be there like a shot!

SnuggyBuggy · 07/10/2018 10:36

One of the most fun NYEs was when we borrowed a firepit, drove up a hill, put the countdown on the radio, toasted muffins and marshmallows and watched the fireworks.

StarShapedWindow · 07/10/2018 11:24

I always book a matinee performance at a theatre for me DH and the DC. Last year we saw The Nutcracker and the year before we saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This year I’d like to book Matilda. It fills up NYE daytime and is really magical for the DC. Then we usually have an early dinner in China Town and get home about 7pm. Put kids to bed at normal time and have relaxing evening with a bottle of bubbly.
