Gift for couple in 40s ...

I have about £35 to spend on a gift for my stepdad and his new wife . They've recently bought a very nice (expensive 😬) house and have lots of lovely things in it already !

I struggle to buy them gifts as they own two businesses and if they want something they buy it themselves !

It's also his birthday at the end of December if anyone has any ideas for that ?

Theatre tokens.
Garden tokens.
Lovely bouquet of flowers.
Any book that has been meaningful for you.

Neom diffuser
Diptyque room spray
Two nice champagne flutes

With rich people I tend to go meaningful but as it's the new wife rather than your parents bit tricky. What about selecting a photo of their wedding and putting it in a very fancy frame?

Afternoon tea for two?

Bearbehind · 30/09/2018 22:04

Misses point of thread but how old are you if your stepdad and wife are in their 40's?

It does kind of change the expectation of gift buying if you're a teenager.

Nice candle -neom in TK max & a decent bottle of wine. I'm 41 & would love that

Bear, all through my 20’s my dad was in his 40’s! I turned 30 weeks before his 50th birthday.

MrsMattWillis · 01/10/2018 12:37

@Bearbehind I'm 26 , married with kids . My mum was 17 when I was born and she met him not long after that , he's her age . They split when i was younger and both remarried , him only very recently .

Thanks , there's some good suggestions on this thread

Sorry OP, I didn't mean for you to have to give your life story Blush

I'd say an expensive version of something you can get cheaper, like a candle or diffuser.

I think you'd struggle to get a decent afternoon tea for 2 for £35, it's that price at least for 1 in a lot of places.

Get a nice large vase for their dining table. John Lewis have some nice vases and tkmaxx’s homeware is really good!

You could get an Amazon echo dot for that price - unless they've already got one/enough. Maybe a cinema voucher might be nice? My other half is in his 40s and I've bought him a bottle of (discounted) rum from m&s and plan to get a proper rum glass from John Lewis or somewhere. Maybe that would work for birthday if he drinks - a small bottle of something with nice glass.
Tk maxx is a really good shout though for nice gifts at that price.

A good board game and a choice of dates for when you will come and play it with them. Arrive on the night , armed with snacks.
