Dd will turn 5 at Christmas, so I have a double whammy of presents to sort out. I am REALLY struggling with ideas this year!

She loves my little pony but has most of the ponies and lots of related toys, she likes Shopkins, LOL Dolls, Hatchimals collectibles and other tiny type things. But she already has lots of them. She likes Barbies but MIL has a massive Barbie house, dolls and accessories at her house from when dd's cousin was little.

She is quite creative and loves colouring etc. Has lots of play doh type stuff but I'm thinking something else along these lines?

She just has lots of toys already, which are all played with but I feel like I'm just adding to it for the sake of it.

Any ideas?

For my DD's 5th birthday last year her favourite present was a craft box filled with pipe cleaners, googly eyes, sequins, glitter and card and glue. Think it was from Hobby Craft?

She also loves board games - Guess Who, Buckaroo and Hungry Hungry Hippos.

Mehhhh786 · 30/09/2018 19:27

You could get some creative type games, them spiral draw blow pen type things ( really have no clue what the name of it is!), there's a my little pony colour your own string lights, I bought my DD last year when she turned 5, she loved it!

SoyDora · 30/09/2018 19:29

Mine is 5 in November so similar dilemma. She isn’t into toys/dolls at all so that adds another layer of complexity to it!

She loves crafts so I’m putting her together a huge box of craft stuff... glitter glue, nice papers and cards, stickers, pipe cleaners, stick on flowers etc. She also loves reading so I’ve got her the Roald Dahl collection and the Worst Witch set too.
She’s really into Lego and I got her the Disney Ariel Lego boat set half price a couple of weeks ago. I’m going to add to it with bits of nice stationery (she likes writing/making books) and pyjamas/slippers. Oh and some Hama beads.
I wouldn’t normally have even thought about it by now but we have a baby due at the end of December so trying to be more organised!

TulipsInBloom1 · 30/09/2018 19:30

Slime. Dd will play with slime all day.

ZigZagZebras · 30/09/2018 19:30

We have a lol doll board game that DD just got for her 6th birthday that she loves.
Multiplayer games I find good at that age, frozen monopoly shes been playing since Christmas just after she turned 5, and she likes the kerplunk style monkey game.

ZigZagZebras · 30/09/2018 19:31

Depending on her height too (my DD is tall so is able to ride it) a stunt scooter is good and goes much faster than the younger ones.

Goldenphoenix · 30/09/2018 19:35

My daughter is five, soon to be six. Have bought her-
A scruff a luvs
A pomsie
Fairy lights
New pens
Glow in the dark crayola colouring book
My fairy garden light up garden
Lego

They are the big things so far, will split them between bday and Christmas

coffeekittens · 30/09/2018 19:37

My DD was 5 12 days after Christmas, she still loves her bush-baby world tree and has lots of the bush-babies. She’s also really enjoyed her playdough kitchen, a bracelet making set (think it was Disney princess), a smiggle secret diary, v-tech kiddi superstar (although you have to plug your phone into it), slime making kits, kinetic sand, little live pets puppy and kitten, dressing up clothes/shoes and children’s make up.

That’s a combination of birthday and Christmas presents that she received which are still loved and played with daily from the start of the year, so much so that her lists this year are very small because she adores all of her toys still.

insertimaginativeusername · 30/09/2018 19:47

Recently turned 5 DD had for birthday/will have for Christmas:

Craft sets -
paint your own money box
decorate your own jewellery box
make your own peg dolls
plus a big craft set full of pipe cleaners and stuff.
Child's sewing machine
Slime making kits
Jewellery kit
My fairy garden

Toys -
zoomer pony
Shopkins
Lego
Barbie
Superhero doll
Trolls
Frog bike

Reading books
Hair accessories
Children's nail varnish set
PJs (she loves new pyjamas!)

(Not all from us!)

Thank you everyone for the suggestions!

I think creative toys is the best way to go. She's got a huge box of craft stuff already but will see if I can find some different things she would like.

Lego might be a good shout as she's just starting to get in to it. The problem I have though is her cousin is 13 and MIL has kept all of her toys (she had everything you can think of!!) so whenever dd expresses an interest in something, MIL tells me not to buy it as there's already a version in her loft. So this applies to the Lego too! It's great but also frustrating in equal measures.

My 5 year old DD has recently got into the Dreamworks series called Spirit: running free, which is on Netflix. I casually googled today to see if there were any toys related to the TV show and there's a whole Playmobil range. So she's getting Lucky's House and a few other sets. I feel very chuffed with myself today!

Regressionconfession · 30/09/2018 20:09

Normandy144 me and my five year old are loving spirit at the moment!! We've just binged watched quite a few of season 4 this afternoon. I'm also eyeing up the playmobil sets (they only came out Friday). She loves playmobil but I can't decide whether there will be any more play value than the playmobil horses and house she already has!!

MillicentCat · 30/09/2018 20:21

Oh that's good! We have watched Spirit but dd is massively in to True and the rainbow kingdom. Maybe I'll see if they have any toys! She also loves Vampirina so MIL is going to get her something related to that.

I usually find her really easy to buy for but I feel like she's got everything she needs so it's really difficult.

My 5yo dd2 is getting:

A spy kit.
A scruff a luv
A flying drone
A Polly pocket set
A kitty surprise tiger
A Lego Disney set
A secret diary
A scratch art set.

debbiewest0 · 30/09/2018 22:56

My daughter was five last month and she loves writing letters to people so that might be something to get? Gets used up but is different to craft?
We got her one or two nice fancy kits and then she also chose paper, cheap envelopes and stickers in Wilko so she can just write away without it costing much. Poundland yesterday had some lovely sheets of gems and A Christopher Robin range of things too. Oh and she likes the colourful rolls of tape to seal the envelopes.

Normandy144 · 30/09/2018 23:12

Regressionconfession, my DD hasn't got any playmobil do this is a done deal for me! I was almost trying to justify the £180 for the LOL Surprise house and then this came along. No contest!

NoWordForFluffy · 01/10/2018 06:54

DD will be 5.6 at Christmas and is getting:

Sylvanian Families house, family and furniture;
Lego;
Books; and
Exploding Kittens.

There's other bits and bobs too, but they're the main items.

She also loves crafts, but I buy stuff all year round and she doesn't need much, though I've got her some new pens and pencils too.

SoyDora · 01/10/2018 07:19

I buy craft stuff all year round too, but other than reading she doesn’t really do anything else outside of school/activities so I don’t know what else to get other than slightly fancier craft stuff! Toys/dolls would be a complete waste of money. I’ve bought some craft kits (like cross stitch/mosaic tiles etc) too.

HelpFindMonkey · 01/10/2018 07:39

My DD is 4.5 and one of her favourite crafty things is aquabeads. They’re pretty easy and she can do them by herself, you just have to make sure to always put the lid back on so they don’t end up all over the floor 🙈

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 02/10/2018 14:05

DD turns 5 a couple of weeks before Christmas. She is getting:

-Disney Princess Lego Castle
-Rainbocorn surprise kitty
-Hatchimals collegtibles nursery playset
-Soggy Doggy board game
-Unicorn Fingerling
-Moana Doll (one of the soft ones from the Disney Store) from her baby brother
-Some kind of craft set
-An Enchantimals figure to go with the Enchantimals house she will have had for her birthday.

drspouse · 02/10/2018 14:30

Mine is 5 in May (so also in YR) and she is much more into Lego than her big brother so possibly a big set of Lego Classic or was it Creator? the older kind, less fiddly.

And Oi Cat and Oi Duck Billed Platypus.

She has been eyeing up every convertible we see out and about "Mummy look there's a car without a roof" "Mummy look there's a lovely red car without a roof" so I was thinking of getting her a Lego kit for a sports car but when I asked her if she wanted one she said "but Mummy I won't be able to drive it" so perhaps that might be a bit disappointing!

And we are going to put pants and socks in her stocking again, and I have a lovely Frugi Christmas themed dress stashed (she's obsessed with her Frugi reindeer tights and they might be getting too small so maybe I'll try and find some more).
