Hello, knowledgeable people in my phone!

I'm looking for some ideas and wondered if you guys could help?

This year I'm thinking about doing hampers/gift baskets and struggling for ideas.

Couples hamper (22&21) (brother and his gf) - £40
Cousin - female (21) - £20
Cousin - male (18) - £20
Cousin - male (14) - £20
Godson - male (13) - £20

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

JB

Cheese, biscuits and wine.
Chutneys, biscuits and cheese.
Posh breakfast tea and pretty cups.

Honestly though, I find hampers as Christmas gifts a bit, meh. It's what you win in a raffle, or get from work as a generic gift. Unless you really personalise them to the individual recipient (which you're not, looking for suggestions on a forum) they're not great.

Also, nothing says "this'll do" like a hamper of vinegars & oils, of cheap smellies, or the worst offender... Hot chocolate in a mug with a pack of marshmallows and a whisk fit for a hobbit Grin

Just get them one nice gift that they will actually want.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2018 19:32

A bottle of something that they like to drink and a box of something they like eat to the price stipulated.
Sorted!

Sparklyfee · 28/09/2018 19:36

In the couples hamper I'd do a "night in" hamper with snacks, drink of choice, fleecy blanket and a just eat voucher or a Gousto voucher.

God the younger ones I'd just give them money or buy a present they want

Hampers do end up being quite expensive as you need lots of nice little bits in it to help make it special.

Tips would be to wrap an open box in Christmas paper and use clear cellophane with a Christmassy ribbon.

Definitely theme it very personal to the recipient- I recently did one for a friend who loves Harry Potter and a few of us all chipped in to help make it a bit special. I found a HP fleece blanket, coasters, drinking glass, and added in some of her favourite chocolates, snacks and booze and we gave her a voucher for her favourite takeaway too. Total was at least £50 plus the voucher.

Instead of hampers as such you could just get a decent bottle of booze for the older ones in a nice gift bag. £20 won’t stretch to much to make a decent looking hamper.

Not sure they would appreciate hamper at those ages.

Id say gift sets from boots would be better.

claret3189 · 28/09/2018 20:52

Look in pinterest thete some fab ideas on what should go in them

Bearbehind · 28/09/2018 21:16

You really can't do a decent hamper for £20.

You need volume to make it lot good but that means lots of low cost times i.e., tat.

blacksmiths09 · 28/09/2018 22:05

Hmmm - I’m sure you could find £20 of decent stuff in Poundworld. A lot of things they sell are worth LOADS more than £1!

bimbobaggins · 28/09/2018 23:18

I do a hamper for my mum every year and it works out really expensive. As the recipients are all quite young could you not just give them a gift voucher or money. . I know that’s maybe not in the spirit of Christmas but you can’t go wrong with it

SputnikBear · 29/09/2018 00:18

The most popular hampers I’ve given have been “movie night” hampers. Popcorn, nachos, dip, packets of sweets, Coke, and dvds.

Reaa · 29/09/2018 00:24

Movie night hampers and make up hampers can both me done for under £20

Make up hamper

Nail varnish
Nail files
Toe separators
Nail varnish remover
Cotton wool pads
So far that's £5 from Poundland, add in some hair ties, face marks, bath salts and still only £8.

Movie hampers

DVDs
Popcorn
Mug
Hot chocolate sachet
Chocolate selection
Soft drinks
Crisps

Again all form Poundland and around £10

Reaa · 29/09/2018 00:30

I realise my above suggestion, is more a pamper hamper, than a make up hamper but hopefully will still give you an idea, of what you can get and how much for.

Courtney555 · 29/09/2018 13:36

Please don't buy 20 items of crap from poundland. There is literally a whole thread on here about not giving people tat in hampers. Particularly the toiletries and the hot chocolate. For every "1" that thinks it's wonderful, there are "99" who think they're junk.

Please just put some thought into one twenty pound gift.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/09/2018 14:38

Totally agree - stay well away from cheap crap. One or two nice things much better than twenty cheap ones.

Chocolatecake12 · 29/09/2018 14:43

They had some really nice gift sets in boots when I was there this morning and as a pp suggested they might be better for the younger cousins at least - jack wills or superdry sets for young teens are always welcome!
You could put together sweet hampers or chocolate hampers.

livingthegoodlife · 30/09/2018 22:14

i agree with everyone - cheap hampers are the worst, sorry but who wants a £1 nail varnish?! would you? i think a nice selection of chocolates/treats and then a proper gift.

for the younger ones - boots gift set & i-tunes voucher (or whatever they are in to) or have they got a christmas wish list? something like a go-ape climbing voucher or cinema tickets?

Sparklyfee · 01/10/2018 12:24

Please don't give anyone a £1.00 nail polish!
