I am having to rebuy Monopoly jr this year as it is falling apart and tape isn't doing the job. It has been a huge hit for about 2 years now even with DD who was 2 when we got it.
Also buying connect 4 and Hungary hippos again as they have lost too many pieces and guess who. All huge hits.
The story cards ,giant cards, jr pictionary ( I think. Where you act out the card) and don't drop the monkey have all been played with lots.
So I will have a 4.5 year old and an almost 8 year old at Christmas. I would like to buy a few more games. What would you recommend? Something that's simple enough for DD to get but not too boring for DH and I. Thanks in advance.

Labyrinth
Quirkle Cubes
Game of Life
Sorry

Are all popular with my dc (just 10, nearly 7).

BevBrook · 23/09/2018 19:07

For card games, maybe Whot and Pit?
Board games - Game of Life?

BevBrook · 23/09/2018 19:07

Oh yes, Labyrinth is good.

Bimmy76 · 23/09/2018 19:07

Exploding Kittens.

EduCated · 23/09/2018 19:07

Dobble is very simple and a bit silly, but lots of fun!

Sushi Go might work, but not overly sure how a 4.5yo would get on with it.

If Connect 4 has gone down well, what about something like Kerplunk or Jenga?

IAmcuriousyellow · 23/09/2018 19:07

Coppit, my favourite board game ever, so many twists and turns. Flushes out the sore losers!

Logoplanter · 23/09/2018 19:25

As well as some of the ones you have we also have:

Scotland Yard Junior
Labyrinth
Bugs in the Kitchen (you've reminded me I need me batteries for the bug!)
Rummikub Junior
Eye found it
Sequence

Eye found it is good, 4 year old should be ok with it as long as they are good at observation. Both my two (7 and 5) love bugs in the kitchen, they also enjoy Scotland Yard Junior. Rummikub Junior is a bit rubbish I think but I adore the adult version and I think both my two would be fine with that whereas the Junior version is a bit too simple. Sequence is good; 7 year old enjoys it, 5 year old can play but gets a bit bored. It's possibly my favourite game to play with them.

Card games we enjoy are Uno, Dobble, Go Fish etc.

Logoplanter · 23/09/2018 19:27

Forgot - mine enjoy Kerplunk but I hate it; find I spend longer putting it together than we do playing!

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 23/09/2018 19:28

Go Sushi
Dobble
Befuzzled
Ticket to Ride (may be a little much for the youngest, but reckon they'd manage it if they're good with board games!)

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 23/09/2018 19:29

Yes, definitely Uno!

MoonlightMedicine · 23/09/2018 19:30

My 2 (4 and 8) love Frustration, UNO and Cluedo.

junebirthdaygirl · 23/09/2018 19:31

DIG IN is fun for all ages and no tricky rules to learn.

Thighofrelief · 23/09/2018 19:33

Battleship
Snakes and ladders

WineGummyBear · 23/09/2018 19:35

Mole Rats in Space
Sushi Go
Dobble
Rhino Hero Superbattle

Monopoly is a no from me. Any game that uses player elimination is asking a lot of even the best loser.

xyzandabc · 23/09/2018 19:41

Dobble
Sushi go
Pirates of catan
Fish sticks

Don't bother with game of life, the version we played in the 80's/90's was great. The new version has added so many extra twiddly bits (if you land here, do this, add this, sing a song, go find something beginning with T......) it takes longer than my will to live lasts. Which is a shame because I loved it as a child.

Blondie1993 · 23/09/2018 19:42

Bugs in the kitchen and Jenga seem to be big hits here. Think I am going to buy scrabble junior and bop it this year.

loubielou31 · 23/09/2018 21:01

Cludo has been changed just enough to make it much quicker to play, that is a real favourite for us.

reluctantbrit · 23/09/2018 21:23

Dobble
Rummikub
Ludo
UNO

Flightywoman · 23/09/2018 22:40

Qwirkle, most definitely, either normal or the cubes. It's a really good game.

Monza is a lovely simple racing game.

Marrakesh is a favourite with us too.

TheOnlyPink · 24/09/2018 10:04

Sushi go is great for younger children, the pictures are cute and easy for them to differentiate. My youngest has been playing it since he was 4.

I hated monopoly, genuinely thought it was the worst game, but my ds 1 has some of the themed monopoly games, and I love those ones. The Nintendo one is my favourite, and we're getting the new cheaters one for this Christmas day!

Andtheresaw · 24/09/2018 10:08

Card game: Set.
When Dd was 4 she wiped the floor with us, as we are practiced in looking for certain types of set (not useful) and she just saw the ones in the game rules.
Also Labyrinth.
Both perfect for playing adults v children.

Mummaluelae · 24/09/2018 10:09

If you have an amazon echo device, buy the gaming buttons and you can play many question games. They are only up to four players but they have truth or dare and family fortunes

BiddyPop · 24/09/2018 11:11

We have QBitz - which can be played by just 1 person, or as many as you have boards (there are 4 in the box, and you can get single player ones to add on). All about making patterns so even small people can manage it.

Ludo
Snakes & Ladders
Draughts and chess board

WellTidy · 24/09/2018 23:56

Draughts, Don’t Sat It, Quirkle, Jenga, Scrabble (junior).
