I'll kick my list off with
Christmas Crackers- yes when the DC were little they were fun, but , IRL they are full of tat, they don't make a good 'bang', I always end up with bits of paper everywhere.

Christmas Pudding/Cake- I make these if I have a housefull, if not then they don't get eaten

Big Tins of Sweets- you just know the manky ones will sit there fossilising till they get thrown out

Cheese- the ones you think are special for Christmas (usually in fancy packaging) they sit in the fridge judgily

Big tins of biscuits - only the nice ones get eaten, the tin hangs about forever with two custard creams in the bottom.

Gift sets- the ones they sneak out for Christmas , lots of style of substance . Would I buy them individually? Probably not .

Christmas cards- I see nice ones , some for the DC to send to friends. I post out to family but the rest sit there , unwritten till they get pushed into the loft (where I forget them next year)

Tins of biscuits. Which I don’t open until we have enough people around to eat them, forget to open, and find when I’m clearing away decorations when everyone in the world is on a diet.

RainbowsArePretty · 21/09/2018 23:43

Shortbread - no one eats it!

Fooferella · 21/09/2018 23:51

Christmas scented hand-wash or lotion. You'll still be smelling of cranberries and spice or Winter snowfall in March.

PhilomenaButterfly · 22/09/2018 15:35

Ah, but I quite like that Foof!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/09/2018 16:13

I bought the M&S handwash last year, we used it up ( at least 2 bottles) till it was one ...probably about March come to think of it Xmas Grin

Love a bit of cinnamon handwash and I'm really narked that L'Occitane discontinued the CinnamonOrange soap.

I still have an uneaten Christmas pudding!

I get too many biscuits almost every year, but the cheese mountain always gets eaten.

Quite often I get some sort of worthy craft project that never quite emerges. And the DC don't seem to be interested in Advent calendars any more, and that bothers me quite a lot

AuntieStella · 22/09/2018 22:28

Oh, and I buy R Whites lemonade every year with the vague idea that I'll actually drink the Martini Bianco I bought about 4 years ago in a fit of nostalgia for the drinks of my teens.

ShatnersBassoon · 22/09/2018 22:32

Matchmakers. I know they're both gritty and waxy, yet I buy them every Christmas for nostalgia's sake. We all eat one, and agree for the 25th consecutive year that they're not as nice as they used to be.

ny20005 · 22/09/2018 22:35

Cheese & crackers for cheese ! Every year I buy them & convince myself that they'll be eaten but they rarely do

This year I'm not buying them

Ninjaplus1 · 23/09/2018 17:20

Last year I bought a gingerbread bread house kit. We never got round to making it.
Boxes of biscuits which I usually end up eating.

moodyblues · 23/09/2018 22:38

ShatnersBassoon matchmakers are lovely!

They don’t last two seconds in this house.

recklessgran · 24/09/2018 14:29

Cranberry sauce - buy it every bloody year - nobody EVER wants any and I bin the unopened jar in the summer during the "cupboard clear out of out of date crap". Been doing this for about forty years - just can't bring myself not to buy it!
Tubs of quality street/roses/celebrations. Dumped this idea last year and just bought a large box of Lindt chocolates and numerous different packs of Lindor. All got eaten and have decided that sometimes less is more and as it's Christmas we are allowed to have lovelier food than usual and will do the same again this year.

StubbleTurnips · 25/09/2018 07:15

Defo nuts and dates, we learned the cheese lesson a couple of years ago so buy the ones we do eat. DH always get one of those massive pork / game pie type things - which Usually is fed to the dog - he can't resist.

lynmilne65 · 25/09/2018 07:21

Am on to second lot of dates already 😋

lynmilne65 · 25/09/2018 07:23

No bread sauce 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

lynmilne65 · 25/09/2018 07:25

My bread sauce is legendary 🤗

lynmilne65 · 25/09/2018 07:26

Yes WHO even uses body lotion?

newmumwithquestions · 25/09/2018 07:28

I EAT ALL THESE THINGS! GIVE THEM TO MEEEEEEE!

lynmilne65 · 25/09/2018 07:29

Cranberry goes well with game and chicken

cece · 25/09/2018 07:49

Our Christmas cake and pudding always get eaten first here.

Mince pies. No one eats them so I end up chucking them out.

Oblomov18 · 25/09/2018 08:09

Laughing because I do a lot of this.

Mrs Doyle making her Dh eat a mince pie with every cup of tea! GrinGrin

BiddyPop · 25/09/2018 08:16

I started on the lidl mini stollen bites last night - I may need to restock next month...

sittingonacornflake · 25/09/2018 09:28

I am salivating reading this.

However I have come on to very smugly announce that this thread simply does not apply to me anymore. Because this year I'm definitely 100% not doing this again. I am going to just buy a little bit of what we actually DO really love and am NOT going mad.

Nope. Not at all. This year will be different.
