I have 4 ladies over 70 years to buy for, and I struggle with every year. Would like to spend between £10 and £15 (but would be great if it looked more). They generally have everything they want, don’t have any particular hobbies and have quite strong styles that I struggle to match to.

Either something consumable: chocolates, flowers, posh tea or a nice candle (you can sometimes pick up half price big yankee jars)

Or

Make a donation in their name to a charity of their choice. I don’t mean buy them Oxfam chickens, but if you know them well you might know what charities or groups mean the most to them.

Magazine or crossword/activities book with a pen?

cameltoeflappyflapflap · 20/09/2018 08:13

a voucher for afternoon tea somewhere?

Small things my mum likes:

Little packaway bag for emergency shopping to stay in the handbag, small and you can get them in lots of different design

Good handcreme

Decent pen and small pocket calendar or notebook

She has a sweet tooth, so really good chocolate and small bottle of red wine. Or biscuit and coffee like Fortume and Mason ones.

Crossword books and pen

Book of old photos from the area they grew up in

Purdyflick · 20/09/2018 16:02

A calendar with a photo for each month that means something to them. It's something they can use all year and still keep afterwards.

My older lady relatives like Bronley dusting powder with the little fluffy puff and they do matching body wash. Very decadent and at least consumable.

Nice Betty of Harrogate gift set.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/09/2018 15:49

Not 'stuff' - either some nice tea and biscuits, or a book token or a voucher for a local restaurant/coffee shop.

For the past 15/16 years My nan (79) gets new slippers and a dressing gown from me.

The one year I got her something different she was disappointed and she said she looks forward to her new ones so reverted back to getting them.

goose1964 · 25/09/2018 11:36

We usually get my mil (88) books but my fil is rubbish at finding out what she already has, and usually gives us the name of a series she already has all the books for. She loves lush shower gel, and spicy candles, assuming no diabetes, posh chocolates always went down well with my gran who managed to ration herself to one a day for months.

Would they enjoy jigsaws? With a jigsaw roll?
