Has anyone been before? Circa £100 per person seems steep, is it justifiable?

Following as I want to do this, but we're travelling from quite a distance!
It does look good though.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/09/2018 21:17

I haven't but I'm very Xmas Envy of parents with DC young enough to go here.

How old are your DC?
Its 4 hours so would you consider the cost/hour to be worth it (it varies from £85 to £120 depending on when you go)
Would you need to do a weekend ?

And ....................how would you top this event next year Xmas Wink

We were thinking about it one year ( I think the last year that my DC would have enjoyed it and not pointed out the fallacy , spoiling it for the younger DC) but it was when it snowed and there were loads of cancellations , so I;m really glad I didn't book it.
We went to Winter Wonderland instead .and found that half the rides were closed there .

I took my dds last year (then 4 and just 8). I think the 8 yr old was a little unsure but in a good way. She still a year on talks about it. Today she said 'i know they can't have been real elves, can they?'

It was v expensive. I had a nightmare day as car broke down. But we had a fab day. The kids really believe they went to Lapland Hmm. We went when it was dark (it was about 4.30 I think) and I honestly think this added to it with all the twinkly lights etc.

You've got to think of it as a big show. Theatre. I spent a fortune in there too so be warned. If not take the kids again, because not sure it would hold the magic twice. But I'd do it again iyswim?

I wanted to take them to the real Lapland...one day maybe.

I've got some stunning photos of them baking cookies with mother Christmas, making toys with conker and wish (elves) and ice skating. The santa was fantastic! As they deliberately get you to fill in personal details that he then talks to them about in a really natural way.
My eldest went to her best friend the next day and told her all about him knowing all about her friend! And her recent bday and dancing comp etc. THIS is what made the expense worth it.

Pompom42 · 16/09/2018 21:27

We went about 3 years ago. I thought it was very good we had a 230-430 slot so for half of it you had daylight then dark for other half. The Santa was brilliant and gave a high quality gift. Gave a present for unborn sibling too as I was 8.5 months pregnant at the time. (Mad I know this was Dec 17th I was due Dec 31st)
Didn't spend too much in there around £10 photo and £3 reindeer food I think and £10 food.

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 16/09/2018 21:28

I’ve been and I’m unsure of advise to give! I paid half price through a family member and still had to justify that. It is magical and fantastic yes. But it is so much money! The set and actors and pretty faultless but you are only there for a few hours too.

Belle89 · 16/09/2018 21:29

Booked to go this year. Went to the 'real' Lapland last December so would love to hear people views as not sure if it'll compare [santa]

user1471530109 · 16/09/2018 21:40

I spent so much Blush but that was completely my own fault. The skating etc was included.

We got down there early and went to a brilliant science museum/nature place that wasn't too far away. The DC loved a couple of hours here and it was v reasonable. You could definitely spend longer.

Like I said. As an adult I think you've got to see it for what it is. A great big theatre show that the kids are 'in'. Lapland has its own currency, it was cold and dark too. Yes as an adult it's obviously the forest. But all the kids were v much convinced!

Like I said. Seeing my eldest face Shock when he knew all about her. And he didn't just read a script. Firstly he made out he couldn't find her on the good list (which really got her panicked as she is a bit of a madam). Then he remembered he's got to look on the dancer and cub list! Her face!

A lot of the days (the cheaper ones!!) are already sold out though according to their Facebook.

LaplandUK - is it worth the money?
LittleMousewithcloggson · 16/09/2018 22:00

Worth every penny
Fantastic theatrical experience from start to finish
Cant recommend it enough
Once you've done it though nothing else compares as far as visiting Father Christmas goes (apart from the real Lapland of course which was incredible)

busybuildingdens · 17/09/2018 11:28

Crikey! We’re paying not much more than that for a weekend at Center Parcs, winter wonderland. I know it won’t be as intense as Lapland UK, but we have been before and it is very very Christmassy! (Obviously it costs more to see Father Christmas, but at least it is still a 4 day holiday for your money as well!)

powerwalk · 17/09/2018 11:35

I wasn't that impressed, neither were dc. A bit of a cringe in places.

If your children are young enough, save up and go to the real lapland. It was out of this world.

teacherspets · 17/09/2018 13:16

Well tickets went on sale today at noon and after half an hour of clicking refresh, dh got tickets Grin dds are 8 and 4 so this will likely be our eldest's last year of believing so I'm really excited.

We've been twice. The first time we thought it was absolutely amazing! The second time we also loved but there wasn't the wow factor so much as we knew what to expect.

We were lucky that when we went it was dry.

We had dinner there but thought it was really reasonable. Honestly I recommend it to everyone it's brilliant.

Passthecake30 · 19/09/2018 06:54

You won't regret it! We went last year and I thought it was fab. Think if it like a theatre show.
Drinks/snacks are very expensive, we took a picnic and ate it in the car on arrival and then splashed out for a drink each (a small hot choc was £4 i think)

We also bought photos, and a elf hat each - they earn a bauble that goes on the end so the pestering to get the hat is enormous!

runs off to look at centre parks winter wonderland

ektomarie · 19/09/2018 07:04

Like Wrek, we’ve been twice. The first time was absolutely enchanting. The attention to detail is amazing - the props are all theatrical quality and the actors are all excellent. My kids’ favourite was a magician elf we ran into in the square.

Second time the kids loved it (and probably liked the repetition) but we adults weren’t impressed. It was pretty much the very same thing, same script, same costumes, same props... etc. Kids talk about going again but we definitely won’t be going a third time.

I’d go once.

WreckTangled · 19/09/2018 07:26

ekto maybe we were being greedy going twice Grin agree that the dc loved it both times

ektomarie · 19/09/2018 08:01

Grin I know the repetition is aimed at kids but I think they need to appease the parents who pay and have some sort of a themed “show” that changes yearly. I did note the second year, all the huskies had clothes/accessories available to buy like Build a Bear. I recall us laughing at the till as our “free” husky now had a lovely wardrobe thinking “Well played Lapland, well played.”

I do worry no other Santa will measure up to the Lapland Santas. They and their elf helpers are seriously fantastic! Last year, our kids were into the movie Sing and the Elf did an impromptu disco party for them so they could show Santa their moves Grin

WreckTangled · 19/09/2018 08:04

The Father Christmas was the best! We're doing the real Lapland this year but could only afford end of nov. Hope there's snow!

Re Lapland UK it really is amazing and I think anyone who can afford it should definitely do it. My dc loved the ice skating. Main meals at the restaurant were £5-£8 I think but the children's portion is easily enough for an adult.
