Yep, ive got to do a Christmassy buffet breakfast for 100 people.

My ideas so far:
Christmas muffins
Crumpets shaped like Christmas trees
Cinnamon rolls with Christmassy fruit and spices.

Help??

For that number, go continental.

Cheeses, ham, could cook loads of part-bake baguettes. Pastries, fruit salad, granola. Done.

sashh · 15/09/2018 08:36

I'd go down the Dutch idea of breakfast.

Cooked meats, hard boiled eggs, bread rolls and butter.

Maybe add some salmon and bucks fizz.

sashh · 15/09/2018 08:38

Oh and maybe make a large kegeree and keep it warm in a slow cooker.

Meet0nTheIedge · 15/09/2018 08:45

I'd go with the bacon rolls, bacon cooked in the oven idea (although don't ruin it with maple syrup). Plus cereals, croissants, pain au chocolat etc and decorate the tables. Although I'm partial to Christmassy food later in the day (things with mincemeat, spices, cranberries etc) I really don't fancy them in the morning.

Dates stuffed with blue cheeses wrapped in prosciutto (fry it off to Christ prosciutto)

Cranberry and Brie puffs

Obvs, smoked salmon and cream cheese Bellinis

Maybe fig/fig jam and goats cheese on a crostini

MiddleClassProblem · 15/09/2018 08:49

Oh, didn’t ready it was breakfast 😂

ChristmasIsMyFavourite · 15/09/2018 08:56

I wouldn’t even try to cook for that many. I’d buy trays of pastries, croissants and butter and jam and have jugs of juice.

ChristmasIsMyFavourite · 15/09/2018 08:57

And fresh fruit Grin

Floaty2018 · 15/09/2018 09:00

Do you have a Costco membership?
They do boxes of pastries (mini croissants/ Danish's) - a few of those may help you along!

Nemesia · 15/09/2018 09:03

The problem with a buffet is that everyone wants a bit of everything. You are better off I think with larger quantities and fewer choices. Even managing the tea/coffee for 100 will be time consuming enough!

froomeonthebroom · 15/09/2018 10:25

DH's family do this every year for about 50 people on Xmas morning. I hate it

We have sausages wrapped in bacon cooked in the oven and kept warm. Fruit salad, yogurt and muesli. Croissants with jam. Sometimes scrambled eggs or hard boiled eggs. Sometimes ham and cheese. Lots of orange juice and coffee. Some people do bucks fizz.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/09/2018 10:30

Who are you coooking for?
People at a Church gathering in the hall?
Homeless shelter?
Loads of families with adults and DC?
Group of hillwalkers all eating before they climb Ben Nevis?

Will they be having this light breakfast and a meal later or is this to be substantial?

Jugs of orange juice on the table
Fruit salad- maybe grapes, orange segments, grapefruit ( done the night before and chilled)

YY to pastries and croissants
Bread for toast
Jams

You can do sausages in the oven (and Quorm sausage if there's any vegetarian or religious issues with meats)

Cereal- one or two choices

Coffee /Tea/ instant hot chocolate

YY to borrowing oven trays, toasters, water urn

Naplins (Christmassy ones Xmas Grin ) and disposable plates.

Bins bags and lots of hands on help .

Good Luck !

I also want to know how this situation came about!

Lots of good ideas here, the only other thing I could think of was porridge/oatmeal in a slow cooker? You could have a selection of nuts/ raisins/ fruit for toppings. Definitely Costco for pastries, muffins and croissants, maybe a cheese and meat board.

Notquiteagandt · 15/09/2018 10:44

Can you hire a professional catering toaster. Toasts in seconds. Make life so much easier. People can then toast things themselves too.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 15/09/2018 12:04

I'm fascinated and aghast at the idea of making a festive breakfast for 100 people. Hope OP comes back and explains a bit more!

Cardiganandcuppa · 15/09/2018 17:01

Ooh, loads of good ideas, thank you.

To answer your very reasonable questions:
Its a church thing, and not actually Christmas morning but the Sunday before.

I will have access to an industrial kitchen and some helpers.

I am thinking its got to be continental.
Like the idea of Christmas compote being used in some way...
I will have a big oven so at the moment am thinking tables of pastries and fruit and yoghurts, and then buying those Christmas tree shaped crumpets Kingsmill do and just heating them through in the oven in batches on trays rather than actual toasters...

Im not quite sure what the budget is yet... a mere detail Grin

Is 9am too early for mince pies???

Oh good idea re hiring an industrial toaster.

Ooh, porridge in a slow cooker with Christmas compote!

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 15/09/2018 17:23

Ah, that makes sense. Presumably you are already all geared up for making 100 cups of tea and coffee (thinking of my parents' church).

I don't think any time is too early for a mince pie! I could eat them at any hour of the day or night.

PotteringAlong · 15/09/2018 17:43

9am definitely not too early for a mince pie!

RaisinRainbow · 15/09/2018 17:47

Wow - epic undertaking!
I feel overwhelmed just thinking about it! So good luck and hope it is easy and enjoyable for you.
Two thoughts spring to mind - potluck/bring a dish and ...caterers!!!
