Is the playmobile advent calendar worth the cash?

And what procedures it tend to get reduced to. It's on Amazon at the moment for £20 which seems reasonable for a toy but a lot for an advent calendar.

Anybody had it before? DD is 5 in October.

Procedures?? What does it tend to get reduced to?

Ooohh thanks for reminding me, thought about it last yr but thought DS was too little, perhaps this year. Interested to know about reductions too.

noitsachicken · 27/08/2018 19:39

We were given a play mobile one, pain in the ass!
Loads of little pieces, kept falling over, the scene made no sense (stable, animals, santa) now we have a box of random palymobile which serves no purpose.

Redrosebelle · 27/08/2018 19:40

I got this one last year, I thought it was brilliant. We got Santa, some farm bits and animals. It worked well with the pony farm which I got for my little boy for Christmas. Ill be buying one again this year. The Santa’s workshop looks good!

donkeysandzebras · 27/08/2018 19:48

We've had four of these over the years and (2DC) and, whilst the DC were really excited to get them, they were frustrating and, dare I say it about playmobil, even disappointing as one morning you'd get, for example, a figure and then next you'd get a plant. There was no logic to the order you got things in either, or not that we could fathom.
They were a nightmare to have with 2DC. One year they shared one taking it in turns to open the doors but that was a disaster as, by chance, odd days had all of the good stuff. That didn't go down well! Another year they had one each and, as there was no logic or pattern to the other you got things, some days one of them would get a great item whilst the other got something really minor.
We're sticking to chocolate this year. Or perhaps Lego if I can get a good deal on them.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 27/08/2018 20:00

I love them and also have a few Christmas sets, Santa’s house and Christmas market but DS isn’t interested in it once he’s opened them in the morning so I’m unsure if to buy one this year.

ShowOfHands · 27/08/2018 20:07

We like them. They get the scenes out every year and rebuild them. DS enjoys them more than nearly every other aspect of Christmas.

Carrie76 · 28/08/2018 09:09

No i don’t think they’re worth it. My boys liked opening the door but then as said previously you often get a small plant or something and they’re not bothered.

We now have a drawer of little bits that never get used. I’m planning on chucking them all out when I finally get around to sorting the toys!

EleanorLavish · 28/08/2018 10:54

Oh, mine loved them!Blush
We are obviously easily pleased Grin.
They loved having a look each day and it was played with loads. In fact I still have it and bring the stuff out each year and the youngest still plays with it.

macnab · 28/08/2018 12:46

My DD loves them! (she's almost 8) She plays with quite a lot of Playmobil and still uses the advent calendar pieces on a regular basis so for me it's worth the money. Mind you, I only just found out that Schleich do them as well as she's horse mad....

trancepants · 28/08/2018 13:16

Last year I decided I was done with bought advent calendars. I've always bought them cheap in January so got a good price but even still, they are only so, so and come with a big tray of waste plastic. This year I have 24 festive boxes that I'll fill myself and hang on the hall tree for a daily opening. I have two options to fill it with. One is a Lego Creator festive village, which I'll divide into 24 and we can do it every day. Though I might save that until next year and use a selection of Imaginext and Playmobil figures instead.

My mum also used to get DS an advent calendar but this year she has her own 24 boxes and we're putting 20-25 pieces of a 500pc festive jigsaw into each box. So we can sit down each day and do it together.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 28/08/2018 20:07

Ds (turned 3 in February) loved his playmobil advent calendar last year. He's already expressed an interest in having one this year and said that we have to buy his sister one too...she'll be six months at Christmas but I suppose I can't blame him for trying.

TheMonkeyMummy · 28/08/2018 20:36

We always get two playmobil and two Lego and the kids love them. I buy them in the sales though as I have four kids.

keepingbees · 28/08/2018 20:49

My dd has asked for one this year, do you need to buy them early in case they sell out?

Isadora2007 · 28/08/2018 21:20

I would look for the Santa/Christmas house by playmobil instead. It’s often round about £25 and would be a great advent toy.

WhatCanBrownBearSee · 29/08/2018 01:41

We had playmobil advent calendars one year, they were fine for what I paid (about half price) but I wouldn’t do them again. What I did instead was get a refillable calendar and the playmobil nativity set cheap in a garden centre’s January sale. We’ve now had 3 years of using the same pieces and my DC look forward to seeing what order I load the pieces in each year. They don’t seem to mind that they don’t get to keep the pieces and it’s become an accidental Christmas tradition

TodayCrosbyToday · 29/08/2018 07:22

I never understood the love for Playmobil - I didn't have any as a child and DDs have always had Happyland and Sylvanian Families. However, the Playmobil unicorn fairy advent calendar was heavily reduced in Argos last year so I got it for DD1 and she absolutely loved it! We kept all the parts in a shoe box and I can honestly say she has played with it all year! I have been so impressed with the quality of Playmobil that DD1 had some more for her 5th birthday. I've already got her the Royal Ice Skating advent for this year - it can be added to the shoe box! Going to try DD2 with the Playmobil 123 advent this year too.

FesteringCarbuncle · 29/08/2018 07:24

Mine loved theirs but it was looked after carefully and packed away properly so it was used for years until they lost interest
Its expensive if you only use it once

Piggyhoolier · 29/08/2018 07:33

My DC love them, and we found them great value for money although we haven’t paid over £20 for them. Never had issues with them being disappointed to get a small piece on a certain day, they get the same joy adding it to their scenes.

And after Xmas the pieces go in the big playmobil box and bits get used for games through the year I.e we had a fireman advent calendar and a police one and we also have the larger sets for those themes so the advent bits get incorporated. Other bits I.e a festive family scene and a shop scene etc, get used as ordinary people who are the target of the robbers or whose house catches fire etc. It’s lovely to see the DC get creative.

Jolteon · 30/08/2018 20:00

We have had the pirate, dress-up and horse farm one, I keep an eye on amazon and buy at around the £12 mark. I was never into playmobil but dd really enjoys playing with her dad's old stuff at MILs so I thought this was a good way to try out, we also use a shoe box for all the bits, dd just plays with it altogether. I like them! Love the make your own nativity idea above!

Xmasbaby11 · 30/08/2018 21:03

I got them for dd 4 and 6 last Xmas - Santa's workshop and the dressing up one. Both were loved and it was great opening them every day. They've played with them all year round and mixed in with our other playmobil. Paid about £20 each - good value for the quality and quantity.

I'm sure you can make your own cheaply and better but I can't be bothered!

mrsdaz · 30/08/2018 23:10

Mine had the wilko’s version on Lego last year. I think they were £8 each and they were brilliant!!

dingdongdigeridoo · 31/08/2018 11:51

We had the playmobil one with Santa on the farm. My DS really loved it. You got some great little toys like a reindeer and sled, then on Xmas eve you got the window with Santa. They got added to his playmobil collection so he played with them for a couple of years afterwards.
