What to buy 8 month old?

My DD will be 8 months old this Christmas and I'm not sure what to get?!

I won't be spending a lot (wrap ups will be clothes in the next sizes, maybe a bath toy etc), but DSD(6) will be here with us on Christmas morning and will wonder why Santa hasn't brought for her sister if I don't get her at least a small pile Grin

I was thinking of a big-ish gift of something she can push to help her learn to walk? Or any other suggestions would be great.

Last year my DS was 10 months so we got him a pop up tent, trike and just random little toys and books. A baby walker would be a good idea though! Didn't really want to get him too much as his Birthday is in February and also he had no idea what was going on!!

I don't know if you can still get them but ELC used to do a wooden push along walker which was filled with building blocks which was brilliant.

Some of those little baby weaning fruit snacks as "sweets" perhaps?

Books are great. At that age "That's not my...." was brilliant and the 6yo will probably enjoy reading them to her.

You can defo get away with second hand stuff at this age as they don't notice so FB selling sites and charity shops are your friend :)

My daughter was 7 months last Christmas. I honestly can't remember what we bought her 🤔 but my parents bought her an activity ta me which she loved, and still gets a fair amount of use out of.

my dd will be 5 months at Christmas and we were planning to get her a walker (one that she can sit in and scoot around) possibly a door bouncer and a few other toys. I don't want to spend too much as I know she won't be able to play with much at that age

A walker is a good idea. There's a nice one in ELC which is a 2-in-1 walker and ride-on with a bonus shape sorting activity. It's the Wobble Toddle Ride On.
When my DC started crawling we got her this www.argos.co.uk/product/4556392 which she loved and used for years, both inside and outside.
For her first birthday we got her a swing with a seat that converted from a baby seat to a normal seat. She also got a sandpit from the grandparents.

A few ideas for stocking fillers:
Finger puppets
Stacking cups
A rainmaker
Xylophone
Touchy feely book
Fisher Price Snap Lock Caterpillar

We got DD2 a huge plastic garage from a charity shop for £5 last year when she was 10 mo. We only got it as it looked massive wrapped up so DD1 (then nearly 4) wouldn’t think Santa was unfair. But it’s still regularly played with now.

We were in this position last year. We went with books, socks, baby snacks, back packs for nursery and a toy each. They got loads from gps so dd1 didn't really notice who had got what from Father Christmas anyway!

MyDS was nearly 6 months old last Christmas. Our main present to him was a ride along toy from 6 months from ELC. It was super cute to strap him in and watch his face as we pulled him round the loving room!

We also got him his first little stocking which had little rattles, teething toys, books etc in it.

I am struggling to know what to get him at nearly 18 months this year. He was 1 in July and got so much stuff then!

My daughter was 11 months for her first Xmas and all she wanted to play with on Xmas day was an orange....

Spam88 · 15/08/2018 07:45

filthy I've got my (will be) 19 month old a Happyland set and a whizz World train set. I've got a list for if people ask what to buy her, which includes a doll, remote control car, lots of books and finger paints.

FilthyforFirth · 15/08/2018 08:16

Ooh painting stuff is a good idea, will he be old enough at 18 months for that sort of thing?!

My and DH are massive readers so he has a library already @spam89, we don't have space for loads more!

I reckon as long as they're ones that are safe if they eat them it should be fine 🙈
