What Christmas Films do I need in my collection?

AlwaysWantedToBeATenenbaum · 14/08/2018 07:59

My DS will be nearly 2 this Christmas so I want to start doing the tradition where we watch a couple of Christmassy films a week up to Christmas Day!
We have already: Elf, Muppets Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life, Trains Planes & Automobiles and the Home Alone's - what else do I need in your opinion?!!

OP posts:
Buddyelf · 15/08/2018 13:21

I think they have probably already been said but
The Grinch
Miracle on 34th Street
Arthur Christmas
The Santa Clause

Christmas films are my favourite!

DPotter · 15/08/2018 18:40

Whatwould - hope you enjoy it!
I'll save my copy as a Christmas pressie for DD - she loves the film and always tries to find it on the TV at Christmas time

SequinsOnEverything · 15/08/2018 20:07

I am so watching the greatest store in the work this week, then buying it if I love it as much as I'm expecting to! Thanks!!

I'd say all 3 the santa clause films. More for you than children probably but I love Christmas with the kranks.

NerosFiddle · 15/08/2018 20:51

Arthur Christmas is a favourite of my nearly 2yo ds. It's on Netflix at the minute.

SequinsOnEverything · 15/08/2018 22:20

Watched the greatest store in the world tonight and loved it! It's got peter capaldi, Brian blessed and s club 7, plus Christmas, what more could you want in a film??

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 16/08/2018 08:06

Sequins I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I'm trying to decide whether I should watch it now or wait until December and watch it with my sister...

violet0805 · 16/08/2018 08:24

My kids absolutely loved Mickeys Once Upon a Christmas, and Mickeys Twice Upon a Christmas 😊 they're 14 and 11 now and we still watch it every year (Altho there is a story where they question if Santa is real - it then obviously turns out he is. My kids never questioned it but have read moaning reviews about it on amazon 🙄)

OldGreyBoots · 16/08/2018 21:06

Die Hard, of course Grin

NellyTimes · 16/08/2018 21:17

Get Santa is brilliant, but maybe for when he is a little older. Arthur Christmas and Muppets Christmas Carol are the other favourites in our house.

sultanaloaf · 16/08/2018 21:19

The Bear is also lovely. Another Raymond Briggs one.

blacksmiths09 · 17/08/2018 09:14

My Blu ray/dvd Christmas film collection is massive! 😂

But I LOVE Movies 24 because around November it changes to Christmas 24 and there are LOADS of fab cheesy Christmas films (often with aged once-famous actors we lived in our youth)

CBeebies Winter Collection and CBeebies Live Panto box set

BakewellGin1 · 17/08/2018 10:51

Nativity/and follow ups although first is our favourite
Polar Express
The Grinch
Home Alones

At that age my DS liked short ones such as
The Snowman
Father Christmas
The Snowman and The Snowdog

He also liked cartoons such as Bob the Builder and Peppa Pig (Xmas Editions)

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/08/2018 10:52

Gremlins is our favourite

BlooperReel · 17/08/2018 11:51

We have:

Gremlins
The littlest light on the Christmas tree
Miracle on 34th street
The nightmare before Christmas
The Nutcracker
The Snowman
Santa Claus the movie
Jingle all the way
Elf on the shelf movie
Troll's holiday
Elf - buddys musical christmas
Elf
Shrek the halls

CountFosco · 18/08/2018 14:32

Annabelle's Wish is sweet for LOs. The Snowman is essential, we like the first two Nativity films but the third is shite. I've got The BBCs Box of Delights for this year, very excited about watching it again but a bit old for your LO.

ShowOfHands · 18/08/2018 14:43

Oh... Has anyone mentioned the Muppet Christmas Carol?

Yeah, the OP Grin

On YouTube, you can watch the original 1933 Disney Night Before Christmas animation and the Tom and Jerry version. We love both.

Lost Christmas is a lovely drama starring Eddie Izzard. Also like The Flint Street Nativity and CBeebies A Christmas Carol for little ones.

Kr3000 · 19/08/2018 06:57

Definitely Gremlins! It's brilliant to watch that with Christmas snacks!

fuckthisforfun · 19/08/2018 07:23

Santa clause the movie. It's just the best Christmas film ever. I was sad I missed it last year, I had to buy the dvd and watch it in January

MikesJuppIsMyBitch · 19/08/2018 10:11

Also on YouTube, check out Pluto's Christmas Wish. It's from 1950, and it's (I think) the first animation to feature the chipmunks. #mixedblessing.

Anyway, I think it's brilliant, & my two loved it when they were littler.

CountFosco · 19/08/2018 19:27

Definitely Gremlins!

Maybe not if you don't want your kids to know about Father Christmas. In fact with a child as young as two I'd check all the films you are watching to make sure you are happy with how much FC is questioned by the adults. Everyone has different limits and it will vary with the age of your child as well.

CountFosco · 19/08/2018 19:28

Oh, has anyone mentioned Arthur Christmas yet? It's the favourite Christmas Film in this house. Better than Elf which we all hate!

FairyFace · 21/08/2018 12:00

I know I sound like a big kid but I have loved Mickeys Once Upon a Christmas since kids were babies, really love it.

A Christmas Carol, the one with Jim Carrey as Scrooge.

MinecraftHolmes · 21/08/2018 12:08

For a 2 year old you need Arthur Christmas and Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas. DD was 2 last Christmas and Elf was still beyond her - DS was only a bit interested at almost 5. She enjoyed the Grinch too, but she doesn't scare easily - DS was weirded out by it at the same age. They both love The Snowman (with Bowie at the start), and The Ice Queen on CBeebies was a huge hit - as are any Julia Donaldson adaptations.

Home Alone was one of the first live action films that DS would sit through - we like to say it's Die Hard for kids Grin

PercivalWulfricBrian · 21/08/2018 13:58

@WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo aww I loved the greatest store in the world. We had it on video recorded off the to, but no longer have a vcr player so may need to look at ordering the DVD
